hey,
i downloaded the latest ipod update to my computer,
if i install it to my ipod will it erase all my songs?

I don't use an iPod, but I'm figuring it's a normal update, which means it will only update the iPod software and will not erase any of your files/songs on it. It's like a Windows Update, just adding/modifying Windows files and nothing else. But I would check with the information that is listed for the update about what it is actually updating.
