My google (and lycos) results are all sent to ad sites. I removed the O4 HKCU...driver64.exe entries from the registry; these were said to be related to Wareout on some sites, but the problem persists.

Please help!

Problem appears to be solved.

O17 entries "HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip" deleted through HJT. Google searches now go where they are supposed to.

You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://forums.subrat...e=post&id=43811
http://swandog46.gee.../Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, then make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish. The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

When your system reboots, follow the prompts. Afterwards, HijackThis will launch. Please close it out,
Reboot your computer once more

Finally, please post the contents of the logfile C:\fixwareout\report.txt, along with a new HijackThis log into this topic.

Thanks a lot for your help!

I deleted hfixer.exe but did not find dmdxy.exe in system32 or in a search of c:\windows\.

I also noticed these files in system32 that I had not before: cswsg.exe and woinst32.exe.
cswsg.exe was created today at 6:36pm, which I think is when I arrived home and booted the computer.

Great work !
Did you delete all of those files ?

Nice job your log is clean !
How is it running ?
Please use the following suggestion to help prevent reinfection

First Off,
*Be sure and reset your hidden Files and Folders*

Download the following program, For keeping crap off your system to begin with
Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests. Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox. Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.
Download Spyware Blaster

Keep AD-Aware. and Spybot 1.3 handy, Check them for updates prior to running and run them weekly
Same with your Anti Virus,

For an added check run an online virus scan, you can use one of the 2 below,
TrendMicro's HouseCall
ActiveScan

Be sure and give the Temp folders a cleaning out now and then as well, Make sure after you clean your Temp files to empty out your Recycle bin as well.
Click Start | Run | type in cleanmgr | OK

Let it scan your system for files to remove.

Make sure Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files, and Recycle Bin are the only things checked.

Press OK to remove them.

Remeber to Check Windows for updates

Probably a good time to create a new restore point See Here for XP

See Here for ME Name it clean or something like that,

Yes, I got rid of those 2 new files in c:\windows\system32 and ran FixWareout again because I noticed a final registry entry in the area where it had deleted a bunch before (HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ruins).

This one is tough to locate- nothing in the process list or typical registry areas I look for a program when the computer starts acting up.

Thanks again for the help.

Please click this link to download Silent Runners.
* Save it to the desktop.
* Run Silent Runner's by doubleclicking the "Silent Runners" icon on your desktop.
* You will see a text file appear on the desktop - it's not done yet, just let it run (it won't appear to be doing anything!)
* Once you receive the prompt "All Done!", double-click on the new text file on the desktop and copy that entire log and paste it here.

*NOTE* If you receive any warning message about scripts, please choose to allow the script to run.

Also,
  • Please download RKFiles from HERE
  • Create a new folder called c:\Antispyware\RKFiles
  • Extract the contents of RKFiles.zip into this new RKFiles folder.
  • Reboot into Safe Mode
(Start tapping the F8 key on start up)
  • Open the C:\Antispyware\RKFiles folder
  • Locate and double-click the RKFILES.BAT to run this tool..
  • When it is finished a text file will open..
  • Please copy the contents of the log and paste them here[list]
  • Note: the log with be saved at c:\log.txt
