1) I have a laser writer attached (via usb)

2) everytime I boot windows states it has found a new hardware device (my laser printer by name)

3) but after some time windows reports back it is unable to properly install.

4) I ignore and the printer works just fine.

5) I suspected that the printer's drivers were in a folder not searchec by plug and play but accessible when I wanted to print, but; I also have a color ink jet and its driver folder is in the same location as the laster writer driver folder. (documents and settings).

6) I did copy the laser writer contents and pasted them into system32\driver folder ... but nothing happens

so how can I get plug and play to see laser writer or get it to go away

thanks

Try this – USB Installation acts strangely at times – the drivers need to be [WINDOWS INSTALLED] 1st before Device is connected to PC – So to do this:
1- [With PC OFF] – Disconnect USB Laserwriter Printer – and the Inkjet also –
2- Boot up PC – Then AFTER [WINDOWS] is installed & running –
3- Connect the Laserwriter printer to a USB PORT –
4- PnP should find [NEW DEVICE] & Install Laserwriter Printer (We Hope)
5- Go to [PRINTERS] Folder and – RIGHT CLICK – [LASERPRINTER] & SET as [DEFAULT] Printer –
If this is successful installation then – [SHUT DOWN] PC and [RESTART] – (leaving Printer connected ) and see if PC comes up normally & printer is selected –
______________________________________________________________________________

If not successful or have same results then here is a TO DO LIST:

(1) Need more info on printer – Both printers -
1- Manufacturer
2- Model Number
3- Do you have the installation CD

(2) Plus some additional information

1- You indicated that the Laserwriter is USB Interfacing –
2- When did you install the Laserwriter –
3- Did you ever had a proper [INSTALLATION] with the Laserwriter –
4- Is the Color Inkjet still installed –
5- What Interface is it –
6- Do / are you still able to print with it –
7- Do you have any other USB Devices – List
8- Do you have the latest – (USB – 2000 XP) – Drivers for the Laserwriter –

(3) Then I need some info on your Motherboard – Chipset – USB HOST CONTROLLERS –

Download the FREE Edition of [EVEREST] – (Click on LINK below)
http://www.lavalys.h...p?pid=1&lang=en

1- Install
2- RUN
3- Expand – [DEVICES] Folder – Click on [DEVICES] Folder
4- On Main Menu – Click [REPORTS] > [QUICK REPORT-DEVICES] > Click [HTML]
5- This should display [DEVICES REPORT] – [SAVE to FILE] – using menu on [REPORT]
6- Attach file to RETURN POST –
7- NOW - Expand [MOTHERBOARD] Folder & Click on [MOTHERBOARD]
8- On Main Menu – Click [REPORT] > [QUICK REPORT-Motherboard] > Click [HTML]
9- This should display [MOTHERBOARD REPORT] – [SAVE to FILE] – using menu on [REPORT]
10- Attach this file also to RETURN POST

POST back [ANSWERS] & attach [REPORTS] -
