Hello Becksfort and welcome to Geeks to Go

As an introduction, please note that I am not Superhuman, I do not know everything, but what I do know has taken me years to learn. I am happy to pass on this information to you, but please bear in mind that I am also fallible.

Please note that you should have Administrator rights to perform the fixes. Also note that multiple identity PC’s (family PC’s) present a different problem; please tell me if your PC has more than one individual’s setting.

Before we get underway, you may wish to print these instructions for easy reference during the fix, although please be aware that many of the required URLs are hyperlinks in the red names shown on your screen. Part of the fix may require you to be in Safe Mode, which will not allow you to access the internet, or my instructions!

You have the Virtumonde (Vundo) infection, but more importantly, you do not appear to have any antivirus protection at all. We must correct that first of all. Let’s see what we can do with the first sweep.

Firstly could you please disable Ewido Guard from running during the fix, it may just stop us from changing anything. Open Ewido and uncheck Guard option.

Download
AVG ANTIVIRUS FREE EDITION

Install AVG (Alvaro Villa Galvis) antivirus protection. Update it and let it scan the whole of your PC.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files
  • This will create a VundoFix folder on your desktop.
  • After the files are extracted, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
  • Once in safe mode open the VundoFix folder and double-click on KillVundo.bat
  • You will first be presented with a warning and a list of forums to seek help at.

  • At this point press Enter once.
  • Next you will see:

    Type in the file path as instructed by the forum staff
    Then Press Enter, Then F6, Then Enter Again to continue with the fix.

  • At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):
    • C:\WINDOWS\system32\iiiif.dll
  • Press Enter, then press the F6 key, then press Enter one more time to continue with the fix.
  • Next you will see:

    Please type in the second file path as instructed by the forum staff
    Then Press Enter, Then F6, Then Enter Again to continue with the fix.

  • At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!): C:\WINDOWS\system32\fiiii.*
  • Press Enter, then press the F6 key, then press Enter one more time to continue with the fix.
  • The fix will run then HijackThis will open.
  • In HiJackThis, please place a check next to the following items and click FIX CHECKED: O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {52B1DFC7-AAFC-4362-B103-868B0683C697} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\iiiif.dll
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: iiiif - C:\WINDOWS\system32\iiiif.dll
  • After you have fixed these items, close HiJackThis and Press any key to Force a reboot of your computer.
  • Pressing any key will cause a "Blue Screen of Death" this is normal, do not worry!
  • Once your machine reboots please continue with the instructions below.
Download and install CleanUp!

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programmes menu).
Set the programme up as follows:
Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):
  • Empty Recycle Bins
  • Delete Cookies
  • Delete Prefetch files
  • Cleanup! All Users
Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the programme.

It may ask you to reboot at the end, click NO.

Then, please run this online virus scan: ActiveScan

Copy the results of the ActiveScan and paste them here along with a new HiJackThis log and the vundofix.txt file from the vundofix folder into this topic.

I printed your instructions. I am running XP with several different family member settings, but am currently in administrator. Does this change the instructions?

No. Please continue with the fix using the same ID setting that produced the HJT log. When this setting is clean, I wll examine the others.

The AVG antivirus caught the file and deleted it. I went ahead and did the rest, except the vundofix couldn't find the file after the antivirus software deleted it. I finished the rest of the instructions, save that step. here are the results and thanks for letting me know I had no antivirus. I didn't realize that.

Hello again.

Your log is looking good. There might be one small adjustment to make depending on your answer to this question. Judging by time differences and entries in your log, I would say that you lived in USA, however, your browser routing is via Cybertechnology in the Netherlands. Is this deliberate? If so do nothing, if not continue with the adjustment.

Rescan with HijackThis. Close all programmes leaving only HijackThis running. Place a checkmark or tick against the following:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Connection Wizard,ShellNext = http://62.4.84.53/tr...=fm2_spybot_1_3

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Can I please see a HJT log for every other profile with its own setting. Please make sure we can't get confused by either naming or numbering each log.
