Hello

I have been unable to clearly identify what the infection/malware is but the problems are: IE/Outlook slow to load; changed IE homepage; changed wallpaper; couldn't get to some websites eg www.symantec.com; unknown IP addresses added to host file, etc.

I'd like to prefix this post by saying i have followed the instructions at:

to the letter and still can't seem to get rid of the beastie.

My anti-virus software [F-Prot] runtime protection finds a suspicious file:
C:\windows\system32\dmyps.exe is a destructive program named W32/Trojan.ZY
but can permanently remove it.

Note "dmyps.exe" is a 5 letter exe that changes name at every login.
It use to show also in the registry, but since using Ewido to delete it, it nolonger appears here:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Windows\Current Version\Run

dmyps.exe is being quarantined/deleted by F-Prot so that's probably why it doesn't appear in hjt log file.
