I downloaded what NAV calls Bloodhound.Packed virus. The problem is this bug takes away the ability to double click on any desktop icon, it has removed my RUN, Search and the all the Programs in the Start Up Menu. Also, the programs are gone in "Add/Revoce Programs" in Control Panel. The uninstall option is gone (under properties)for any program icon on desk top. System Restore to an erlier period is gone. I have run Spybot, and Winsafe XP..both found a bunch of bugs...but it did not fix the problem.

I am unable to open any page in IE or Netscape (though I am able to use Firefox..but none of the online webscans allow you to use Firefox)..

The next step was to do a System Recovery (F10) under XP...this worked for about 30 mins everything was back to the stage where I bought the PC...however, slowly but surely my RUN, SEARCH and all the other problems came back.

I then purchased NAV 2005 (at the store with physical CD) and tried to run it, but it says I have to unistall NAV 2004, but I don't have uninstall available (though I think there is a way to unistall at the command prompt)....

Anyway..Im stuck..and it sucks.

Check the following items in HijackThis.
Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

Then download and install HTAstop http://www.nsclean.com/htastop.html

Reboot, find Windows Timer.hta It should be in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs
Rightclick it and post the content.

I made the suggested changes in Hijackthis, and I downloaded the HTAStop program and ran it..it came back with the message "HTA is blocked". I then rebooted and looked for the Windows Timer (hta file). I found the following - backup-20041230-161010-834-Windows Timer ... size 26KB, but I am unable to display any contents....

Other than that everything seems to be working fine (I'm keeping my fingers crossed...). I even ran IE as well as Netscape and Firefox...they all seem to be working well...
