Sometimes when I start my computer I get a message that the connection
to my monitor is not working. The real problem is that when I start
the computer up it gets to checking the cd and then nothing plus the
monitor connection message. I have seen the errormessage previous boot incomplete also. If I keep trying the computer will boot
as normal to win98se. Could this be a Hard drive going bad or bad
memory (ram)? Any ideas would be greatly apprectated. Normally I get
the Hp splash screen as soon as I turn the power on.

on a 4+ year old system would the battery be a pop out or soldered in? Hp pavilion xe celeron.

I just replaced the battery and the computer started up normally. I then shut down and restarted again and the same old problem resurfaced. What do you think now?

Sounds like some type of BIOS/CMOS problem. You might be looking at a new motherboard.

First disconnect the power, and remove the battery overnight. Replace it and reboot to see if that helps.

If not, try checking HP's site to see if a BIOS update is available for your system. Flashing a BIOS can be risky, so we don't often recommend it, but it's pretty much the last resort. If found, follow the directions very closely.

Let us know the results
