This problem is with my home computer, Windows version is XP. I can turn on my PC and get to the Windows XP desktop, using my login icon, but not much happens from there. Desktop background comes on but hour glass does not go away. Then continuous messages pop up, an example of which is "pokapoka70.exe - corrupt file The file or directory \windows\etb\etb.ini is corrupt and unreadable. Please run the chkdsk utility."

Problem is I can't get to Ad Aware or Norton or to the Check Disk tool. If I could get to AdAware I would attempt to remove. I am using my computer at work b/c I can't do anything with my PC at home to get to the internet, etc.

Is there a fix on this? Regarding responses, my work hours are 8a to 5p Mon - Fri.

Please help! I really don't want to reformat my C:\ drive as this would be the 5th time I would have done this.

Thanks.

Welcome to GTG.

So you can't run anything on that computer now? How about HijackThis? Have you tried doing this in Safe Mode? If not, read the link below and get all those programs burned to a CD and copy them and install it in Safe Mode (if that doesn't freeze on you).

Please read the first link in my signature and follow the steps outlined there. When you are ready, post the HijackThis log here.
