I've read through the other topics regarding WinFixer 2005 and downloaded Hijack this so I could paste a log.

I have Symantec Virus Protection that is updated everytime there is a new update. I just downloaded a trial verion of AVG Firewall because a friend who is in IT suggested it. This started about 10 days ago and at first was the pop up box saying I had a problem and WinFixer 2005 could help me. Even if I clicked Close or the red "x" it opened IE and new window prompting me to download and install WinFixer. I would close it, it would come back. A few days ago when I hit F9 to refresh my Outlook Express, suddenly 63 IE windows popped up but they had "Page not found" as the page. I ran Spybot Search & Destroy in Safe Mode which helped for a few days. One of the fixable items was WinFixer. In the address bar it was trying to redirect. Now whenever I'm online and refresh in Outlook or try to access IE, I get between 12 and 40 IE windows of "Page Not Found."

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click 'Options...'
Move the arrow down to 'Custom CleanUp!'
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):

* Empty Recycle Bins
* Delete Cookies
* Delete Prefetch files
* Cleanup! All Users

Click OK. Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.
It may ask you to reboot at the end, click NO.

Then, please run an online virus scan at ActiveScan http://www.pandasoft.../activescan.htm

Copy the results of the ActiveScan and paste them here along with a new HijackThis log and the vundofix.txt file from the vundofix folder into this topic.

I'm having loads of problems.

What I have done:
1. I've downloaded and extracted the files for VundoFix
2. I've rebooted and tapped F8 to go into Safe Mode
3. I've chosen Safe Mode

One of three happens:
One
I choose my user icon (I have one and my husband has one)
The screen goes black and has "Safe Mode" in each four corners.
Nothing happens: the desktop does not come up

Two
I choose my user icon or the Administrator icon
The screen goes black and has "Safe Mode" in each four corners.
A pop-up appears and says "You are running in Safe Mode. Click Yes if you want to continue. If you would rather do a System Restore, Click No." (it says more, but that's the gist of it)
I click Yes, everything freezes. The pop-up window remains, the cursor freezes and nothing happens.
OR I click Yes, I can doubleclick on KillVundo.bat, the blue screen comes up with the blinking cursor that asks you to press Enter and everything freezes.

Three

The opportunity that I did get to run KillVundo.bat I fixed the things you listed with two exceptions:
1. I did not have O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {827DC836-DD9F-4A68-A602-5812EB50A834} - C:\WINDOWS\repair\apip.dll listed anymore.
2. O20 - Winlogon Notify: apip - C:\WINDOWS\repair\apip.dll looked like this instead: O20 - Winlogon Notify: apip - C:\WINDOWS\repair\apip.dll (file missing)

These did not show up:

When the blue screen came back and I'm supposed to press any key it said that a file was missing and to contact the forum.

I extracted the files of Vundofix again and have tried to go back into Safe Mode but it freezes up. I had no problems with Safe Mode a few days ago so I'm not sure what's going on.

I'm at my wit's end at this point. It's taken me forever to get back here to post as well because I get 17+ IE Window pop-ups. Knock on wood, I haven't had any on this time of trying to post.

I was able to get into Safe Mode with no problems this time and tried to do the directions that you first listed. Once I typed in C:\WINDOWS\repair\pipa.* it said that filepath didn't exist.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Please download VundoFix.exe at http://www.atribune....ds/VundoFix.exe to your desktop.

* Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files.
* After the files are extracted, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key (or F5 in some machines) until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
* Once in safe mode open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat
* Please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):

C:\WINDOWS\Help\SBSI\tapi.dll

* Press Enter, then press the F6 key, then press Enter one more time to continue with the fix.
* When asked for a second path, enter -> C:\WINDOWS\Help\SBSI\ipat.*
* Press Enter, then press the F6 key, then press Enter one more time to continue with the fix.
* The fix will run then HijackThis will open.
* In HijackThis, please place a check next to the following items and click FIX CHECKED:

Download and install CleanUp! http://www.greyknigh...spy/CleanUp.exe

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click 'Options...'
Move the arrow down to 'Custom CleanUp!'
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):

* Empty Recycle Bins
* Delete Cookies
* Delete Prefetch files
* Cleanup! All Users

Click OK. Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.
It may ask you to reboot at the end, click NO.

Then, please run an online virus scan at ActiveScan http://www.pandasoft.../activescan.htm

Copy the results of the ActiveScan and paste them here along with a new HijackThis log and the vundofix.txt file from the vundofix folder into this topic.

I downloaded Vundofix and extracted the files again. Once I got into Safe Mode, I followed your instructions.

However there were two things different again -
I did not have this one --> O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {827DC836-DD9F-4A68-A602-5812EB50A834} - C:\WINDOWS\Help\SBSI\tapi.dll
And this one read: O20 - Winlogon Notify: tapi - C:\WINDOWS\Help\SBSI\tapi.dll (file missing)

I fixed the items, closed Hijackthis. The KillVundo.bat screen then said "A file critical to VundoFix is missing. Please download VundoFix again and extract the files. Contact the helper of the forum." And then it rebooted itself.

I ran CleanUp! exactly as instructed.

I also ran an online virus scan at ActiveScan.

Download KillBox http://www.greyknigh...spy/KillBox.exe. Run KillBox and check the box that says 'End Explorer Shell While Killing File'. Next click on 'Delete on Reboot'. Copy the below files and go back to KillBox. Go to File->Paste from Clipboard and then hit the button with a red circle and white X. Confirm to delete and when asked if you want to reboot, say Yes:

I get the same two things even though I ran KillBot to delete them and rebooted. In the new Pandascan, they were there again. I guess this is just something I can deal with and use Ad-Aware or Spybot to get rid of? Is WinFixer gone for good? I don't have any more pop-ups.
