MsUpdater is a trojan that rollback any updates made with any of my mcafee products (anti-virus & anti-spyware). No spyware remover that I have is able to delete this trojan.

Before you start set AdWatch to "Active" instead of "Automatic"
I think you will find that AdWatch was rewriting the entries in your registry.

Check the following items in HijackThis.
Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [msupdates] msupdates.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [msupdater] msupdater.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [msupdates] msupdates.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [msupdater] msupdater.exe

O4 - Startup: Bittorent.lnk = C:\Program Files\ABC\abc.exe

Then reboot and post a new log.

Unrelated, but the reason why I took on your log:
Can you find and rightclick this file
C:\WINDOWS\System32\DPWLEvHd.dll
Let me know if it says on the version tab who made it or to which software it belongs.

Regards,

Thanks for the response. C:\WINDOWS\System32\DPWLEvHd.dll is DigitalPersona software. It is for my fingerprint reader which is attached to my keyboard. I'm lazy and don't like to type my passwords. Anyways, Here is the new logfile that was created:

Download Brute Force Uninstaller.
Unzip it to it’s own folder (c:\BFU)

Download the attachment to this post into the same folder and rename it to thadeus.bfu

Start the Brute Force Uninstaller by doubleclicking BFU.exe

In the scriptline to execute copy and paste c:\bfu\thadeus.bfu
Press execute and let it do it’s job.

Wait for the complete script execution box to popup and press OK.
If the script is really executed you should have seen a progress bar.
Press exit to terminate the BFU program.

Run HijackThis and post a fresh log.

Good job. :tazz:

Can you do me a favor?

The script moved the offending files to your RecycleBin.

I would very much like to have a look at those files, since they appear to be rather new.
We can get them submitted to the anti-virus industry fairly fast.

Surf to:
http://www.thespykil...x.php?topic=5.0
and upload
msupdates.exe
msupdater.exe

Then check the following items in HijackThis.
Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {E0E899AB-F487-11D5-8D29-0050BA6940E3} - (no file)

You can put AdAware back to your preferred settings after that.

I'm sorry but I deleted all of the contents of my recycle bin directly after clearing the files. AdWatch still picks up that msupdater.exe tries to alter the registry, but hijackthis does not pick up on msupdater.exe so I guess its gone for good!

Can you post the exact message AdWatch gives you?

Please do have a look at my site about removing and preventing spyware.

An attempt to alter a protected object has been detected (attempt to delete a registry value)

Root: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Key: Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices
Value: msupdater
Data: msupdater.exe

If it says attempt to delete for those two , you can allow it.

It is asking if the things we "fixed" with HijackThis were OK to be removed.

Ok, I thought that it was creating the file again and asking if it be applied to the original file. After I click allow, should this pop up every time I start Ad-Watch?

NO. After you allowed it, it should only ask once for each key.

Post a new HijackThis log if you are insecure about any of this or if you are unsure if you did it correctly.

Well it did come back. But I just unistalled all mcafee products, deleted every trace of them, removed msupdater thru hijackthis, and ran your script. Then I restarted my computer and installed every mcafee product again. It works fine now(I can finally update). But we'll see in a couple of days if msupdater comes back.

Thanks, I just found out that its back. I just unistalled the program and I'm putting norton antivirus on. Maybe that will update without any complications.
