Hi, a friend directed me here and you guys look like just the people to ask.

I recently installed a fresh copy of windows and saw a weird process running (yaemu.exe) so i googled it and of course its a trojan

Anyway, i tried the list of things in the sticky (ad-aware, cwshredder, scans etc) and nothing detected it so can someone please help?

You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:

http://swandog46.gee.../Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, then make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish. The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

When your system reboots, follow the prompts. Afterwards, HijackThis will launch. Please click Scan, and check the following items:

Hi,

Thanks for the quick response. I think i clicked on something i shouldnt have soon after i posted here cause my pc kept rebooting right after it started up so i just formatted the hdd in the end.

Sorry for the inconvenience, but it helped out a friend who had the same problem, might of been something we downloaded

Ok. Looks good. I strongly suggest you install an antivirus and firewall though, because you really need it to prevent such things in the future.

AVG, Bitdefender OR Avast are good FREE antivirus.
Never install more than one antivirusscanner or firewall on your system! Several together can give problems and decreases the reliability of it seriously!
Zonealarm, Kerio OR Sygate are FREE firewalls.

Understanding and using firewalls

To keep this clean in the future, I would suggest the following things:

Install Spywareblaster
SpywareBlaster doesn`t scan and clean for so-called spyware, but prevents it from being installed in the first place. It blocks the popular spyware ActiveX controls, and also prevents the installation of any of them via a webpage.

Avoid illegal sites, because that's where most malware is present.

Let your antispywarescanner(s) scan frequently and don't forget to update before.

And I do suggest you perform an online virusscan once in a while. (Housecall and/or Bitdefender). Because what one virusscanner can't find another one maybe can.
Also make sure that your virusscanner, the one that is installed on your system is always up to date!

Make sure your windows has the latest updates: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/
