I bought a new Dell Inspiron 9300 and about a week later I had these Winfixer and WinAntiSpyware2005 pop-ups. There is a pattern: 1 smaller window in the middle of the screen, I close it then the WinFixer internet page, I close it then 2 more smaller windows, close them and then the AntiSpyware2005 web page takes over the web page I was on. I close this page then it stops. They seem to pop-up the first time I use the internet after I turn my computer on. Most of the time they never pop-up again until I shut down and start my computer. Maybe these patterns can help. Also, I haven't actually installed any of it so it's not listed as a program under the "Add or Remove Programs." I've done all the preliminary steps you all say to do, but it they popped up immediately after I rebooted. Any help would be greatly appreciated. They're just annoying. Thanks in advance. Scan again with HijackThis and check the following items:

After checking these items, close all browser windows except HijackThis and click "Fix checked".

Then reboot your computer.

I see you are using 'MySearch'

It's a toolbar that is open to debate, for more info see this link: http://www.doxdesk.c...e/MySearch.html

If you want to uninstall it:

Open ‘Add/Remove Programs’ in the Control Panel. Select the ‘My Search Bar’ (MySearch variant), ‘MyWay Speed Bar’ (MyWay) or ‘My Web Search Bar’ (MyWeb) entry and click ‘Remove’. For the MyWeb variant, be sure to also remove ‘Fun Web Products Easy Installer’.

You can then reset your home page (Internet Options->General->Start Page) if it has been changed, and search settings (Internet Options->Programs->Reset web settings).

Then reboot your computer

• Don't forget to re-hide all files and folders. To re-hide all files and folders:
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View Tab.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders heading deselect "Show hidden files and folders".
  • Check the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK.
• This is a good time to set up protection against further attacks. Read the article behind this link "How did I get infected". If you don't already have them, you need an antivirus that is updated, a good firewall for example Kerio Personal Firewall or ZoneLabs Zone Alarm, a spyware blocker like SpywareBlaster and also IE-Spyads and spyware detection (Ad-aware SE and SpyBot S+D). All of these have good free versions available... be very cautious about any security software that advertises in popups or other intrusive ways, they are not only usually useless, but also often have malware in them....
  
  Instead of Internet Explorer, use a different browser like Opera, Mozilla or Firefox.
  
  Last, but not least, you need to keep Windows and Internet Explorer up to date by getting all the latest security patches that protects your computer.
  
  This can be accessed by going to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and following the prompts.

Installing them manually worked, thanks. I have another question: I installed Lotus Smartsuite using the original installation CD on my old computer. Lotus Smartsuite is basically presentation graphics software created by IBM, if you aren't familar with it. A while back I wanted to make space on my old computer so I copied the entire Lotus Smartsuite folder onto a CD-R in case I wanted to reinstall it later. I'm pretty sure I unistalled it after I burnt it on the CD. I got a new computer and I want to reinstall it. So I inserted the disk containing the Lotus folder I copied and opened the folder and I can't find a setup.exe file or any file that will allow me to re-install the software on my computer. Would that executable installation file have been in another folder. Am I out of luck?

I think you have to install Lotus Smartsuite using the original installation CD first! Then copy the folder from the CD-R to the computer.

I think that will solve the problem.

OK, that's what I figured. I have another question related to memory modules. I currently have 512MB of RAM (2-256MB modules) in my Dell Inspiron 9300. I want to upgrade to 1 GB of RAM. I found two 512 MB modules on eBay. The seller upgraded his to 2 GB and is selling the original two 512 MB modules that came in his 9300 when he bought it. The seller said they're 6 months old. Two brand new 512MB modules from Dell's website would be $200; these two used modules are $120. Would this be a smart buy? And, does memory usually go bad? I'm just trying to get some opinions. Thanks.
