VX2.Look2me infection, Please help remove VX2.Look [CLOSED]

During my weekly spyware/virus checks CW Shredder detected VX2.Look2me. I ran fix but it was still present after a reboot with the message, " CW Shredder encountered a problem and needed to close" and I'd get another error dialog box, " CWShredder.exe-Application error".
I ran Symantec Spyware.Look2me Removal tool v1.01 and it too did not detect anything.
I performed anti spyware scans with Spybot, Spyware Doctor and fixed any problems it found.
I ran my resident Norton 2005 anti-virus program and it found nothing.
The system is a slower than normal and I've been getting the winfixer and winantispyware pop ups.
I've been reviewing the various forum fixes and see that each case is unique and requires individual attention. I hope you guys can give me a step by step guide to remove this malware and any other problems you see that are evident to me to bring my system back to a smooth running processing machine (I'm also concerned that I may have to many process running which may not be normal). I am pretty paranoid about malware and update the utility definitions weekly and scan as much.

Hi Paulobh and welcome to the Geeks to Go Forums.

My name is Trevuren and I will be helping you with your log.

1. If you haven't logged in go to Geeks to Go and do so. Then proceed to item a.

If you already have logged in, go directly to item a.

Click on My Controls at the top right hand corner of the window.
In the left hand column, click "View Topics"
If you click on the title of your post, you will be taken there

2. Also, while at the My Controls page, check the box to the right of your post and then scroll down.
.Where it says "unsubscribe" click the pull-down menu and select "immediate email notification"

3. Please DELETE your current HJT program from its present location.

4. Download and run the following HijackThis autoinstall program from Here . Please choose the default location of C:\Program Files\ as the destination. HJT needs to be in its own folder so that the program itself isn't deleted by accident. Having the backups could be VITAL to restoring your system if something went wrong in the FIX process!

Run HijackThis
Click SCAN and SAVE LOG. (a notepad window will open with the log in it when you click Save Log) (Ctrl-A to'select all', Ctrl-C to 'copy')
POST the log into this thread using 'Add Reply' (Ctrl-V to 'paste')

DO NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES OR CLICK "FIX CHECKED" UNTIL WE CHECK THE LOG, AS MOST OF THE FILES ARE LEGIT AND VITAL TO THE FUNCTION OF YOUR COMPUTER

Please print these instructions out for use in Safe Mode.

Also note, one must be either logged in under the Administrator account or have administrator privileges to be able to successfully complete these procedures

1. Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.

Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files
This will create a VundoFix folder on your desktop.
After the files are extracted, please REBOOT your computer into Safe Mode.

You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
Once in safe mode open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat
You will first be presented with a warning and a list of forums to seek help at.
it should look like this

Please seek assistance at one of the following forums:

At this point press enter one time.

Type in the filepath as instructed by the forum staff
Then Press Enter, Then F6, Then Enter Again to continue with the fix.
At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below
!):
- C:\WINDOWS\system32\vturp.dll
Press Enter, then press the F6 key, then press Enter one more time to continue with the fix.
Next you will see:

Please type in the second filepath as instructed by the forum staff
Then Press Enter, Then F6, Then Enter Again to continue with the fix.
At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):

C:\WINDOWS\system32\prutv.*
Press Enter, then press the F6 key, then press Enter one more time to continue with the fix.

2. The fix will run then HijackThis will open.

In HiJackThis, please place a check next to the following items and click FIX CHECKED:
- O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {6DD0BC06-4719-4BA3-BEBC-FBAE6A448152} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\vturp.dll
  O20 - Winlogon Notify: vturp - C:\WINDOWS\system32\vturp.dll
After you have fixed these items, close Hijackthis and Press any key to Force a reboot of your computer.
Pressing any key will cause a "Blue Screen of Death" this is normal, do not worry!
Once your machine reboots please continue with the instructions below.

3. Download and install CleanUp!

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):
Empty Recycle Bins
Delete Cookies
Delete Prefetch files
Cleanup! All Users

[*]Click OK
[*]Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.
[*]It may ask you to reboot at the end, click NO.
[/list]4. Please run this online virus scan: ActiveScan
Copy the results of the ActiveScan and paste them here along with a new HiJackThis log and the vundofix.txt file from the vundofix folder into this topic.

I need to disable your Microsoft AntiSpyware Real-time Protection as it may interfere with the fixes.

Open Microsoft AntiSpyware.
Click on Options, Settings.
In the left pane, click on Real-time Protection.
Under Startup Options uncheck: Enable the Microsoft AntiSpyware Security Agents on startup (recommended).
Under Real-time spyware threat protection uncheck: Enable real-time spyware threat protection (recommended).
After you uncheck these, click on the Save button and close Microsoft AntiSpyware.
Right click on the Microsoft AntiSpyware icon on the taskbar and select Shutdown Microsoft AntiSpyware

Make double sure to disable Spybot's Tea Timer for now, as it can interfere with the fixing of problems.

Open Spybot and and make sure you are in Advanced mode (check it in the 'Mode' menu). Go to the Tools section and click resident and then uncheck the box for Tea Timer.

Then, REBOOT

Please RUN HijackThis.
. Click the SCAN button to produce a log.
Place a check mark beside each one of the following items:

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
Now with all the items selected, and all windows closed except for HJT, delete them by clicking the FIX checked button. Close the HijackThis window.
Reboot Your System
Finally, RUN Hijackthis again and produce a new HJT log. Post it in the forum so we can check how everything looks now. In addition, please tell me if there are any more malware problems that you are aware of.

1. Download Blockrem from HERE

Unzip it to its own folder on your desktop.
Boot your computer to safe mode by rebooting and tapping the F8 button repeatedly until it brings up a boot menu.
From that menu, select Safe Mode by using the arrow keys to highlight it then pressing enter.
Once in safe mode open the Blockrem folder on your desktop and double-click blockrem.bat (this is the file with the gear icon) to run it.
Once it is running please follow the onscreen instructions.
Reboot and post a HijackThis log.

2. Please rerun Active Scan

3. Please post the results of the scan.

Download Blockrem from HERE

Unzip it to its own folder on your desktop.
Boot your computer to safe mode by rebooting and tapping the F8 button repeatedly until it brings up a boot menu.
From that menu, select Safe Mode by using the arrow keys to highlight it then pressing enter.
Once in safe mode open the Blockrem folder on your desktop and double-click blockrem.bat (this is the file with the gear icon) to run it.
Once it is running please follow the onscreen instructions.
Reboot and post a HijackThis log.

Trevuren,

I did as you intructed, but Activescan still shows block-checker even after I run Bolckrem.

The log of Activescan and Hijackthis still the same.

What else can I do?
