Ran the assorted recommended programs first. Ewido locked up mid scan though, when that stupid winfixer popped up. However, it did find a few trojan dll files which were quarantined before it locked up. Here is my hijack this file.

Encountered a problem. PC wouldn't boot in safe mode. It starts to, then flies by the pop up window that advises you that you're on safe mode (where you click "yes"). Then it's just a dark screen with script at the top and the words safe mode at the bottom. Tried it 3 times.

So I rebooted in safe mode with networking. It worked. Entered the two file paths correctly, but after entering ENTER F6 ENTER following the second filepath C:\WINNT\system32\utstv.* .....it says "The filepath you entered does not seem to exist. Exit program and check the filepath."

The filepaths were done correctly, per your instructions.

And BTW, when I reboot the computer in regular mode, Ewido immediately pops up with an Infection Alert which it identifies as a Trojan.

It's the dll file I entered under the instructions. (C:\WINNT\system32\vtstu.dll)

What do I do with it?

Hang on. I did a system restore back to yesterday and started over. Still won't boot in simple safe mode, but I went ahead with everything and it seems to be working. I've deleted the two files you mentioned and am running Panda currently. Will report with results in a little while.

Download Blockrem from HERE

• Unzip it to its own folder on your desktop.
• Boot your computer to safe mode by rebooting and tapping the F8 button repeatedly until it brings up a boot menu.
  From that menu, select Safe Mode by using the arrow keys to highlight it then pressing enter.
• Once in safe mode open the Blockrem folder on your desktop and double-click blockrem.bat (this is the file with the gear icon) to run it.
• Once it is running please follow the onscreen instructions.
• Reboot and post a HijackThis log.

The other items are found in your system restore point. We will create a new one when we have this computer cleaned up.

Downloaded and ran Blockrem in safe mode as you said. In Blockrem, it instructed to hit enter and it apparently looked for five or six files, but said that none of them were there. Then hit enter again to escape the program. Here's the new HijackThis file.

I reran Panda and it showed no infections of any kind. I had to settle for running it on "Local Disks". When I tried to run it on "My Computer", it kept locking up after searching 30-40 files and then it would essentially slow my computer down to nothing, so I'd have to shut down. Don't know what's up with that. It ran fine two days ago. However, Panda breezed right through using the "Local disks" option.

Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove infected files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected)

To reset your restore points, please note that you will need to log into your computer with an account which has full administrator access. You will know if the account has administrator access because you will be able to see the System Restore tab. If the tab is missing, you are logged in under a limited account.

1. Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

2. Reboot.

3. Turn ON System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Whoa!!! I did it and now the system says it now has only 132 MEG of available harddrive!!! It's an 80 Gb drive that had about 55 Gb open. I get the low memory warning & under System Info, it says that System Restore is suspended because I need at least 200 Mb of drive space. What ta heck happened to all my drive space?

Short Update: Looked at the folders in my C drive. WINNT has about 18 Gb in it, which seems about normal, I guess....but my Program Files folder has 51 Gb in it!!! That's not right. There is 49.9 Gb in the Google folder!! I've got a google toolbar, so I guess that's where it's coming from. Also, you know how I said Panda would lock up after about 30-40 files when scanning "My Computer"... so I had to scan "My drives"? Well, it always locked up on google dll files. Wonder if that's related? Anyway, the Google folder has a sh*tload of .tmp extension files,...each 1,130 Kb in size. My first thought is to remove the google toolbar program, then delete that program file folder, but you're the expert. What do you suggest?

past a list of 10 of these temp files into the tool.
it will create an archive with these files and a small log on the desktop.

Slight problem. I can highlight and right click to copy the files, but when I right click to paste them into the File Packer, none of the options (including paste) are bolded. It's the same if I try to paste them into notepad, too. Apparently, it is not really copying the tmp files. I tried to see what would happen if I "cut" one instead of "copy". It didn't cut. How can I get a few of these into the File Packer?

More importantly, how am I going to get them off my machine?
