Do you have a windows 2000 cd? if so put it in and reboot your computer and boot off of it and go to the part where it asks what partition you want to install 2000 on, just delete the partition for C: and create a new one for it and then take out the cd and reboot your computer and then go back into DISK MANAGEMENT and see if you can now right clck on the unpartitioned C drive and format it.

I'll check this tomorrow, as for now I need to get to sleep, work in 8 hrs.

I get to the Windows '98 Startup Menu... and she doesn't have a 2000 disk ;\

When you get to that screen, press F5 and see if you get to the command prompt. If you get the A:\ prompt, type format C: /s

Oh...so it's telling you you have no operating system? Have you taken the floppy out of the drive?

I tried formatting it again and it said 'Bad command or file name'

And it's not telling me I don't have an operating system, maybe it'sjust attempting to boot off the wrong partition?

Hey logan11...

Reboot with the 98 startup disk in the drive...at the options screen, press F5...at the A:\ prompt type fdisk /mbr and press "Enter" Your BIOS is looking for the master boot record at the first sector of the C: partition and it's no longer there...this will put it back.

ha..ha... left both startup discs at my house and the system recovery one isnt working

im gonna do a reinstall without format, make another boot disk, format again, and then do the thing you suggested

If you get 98 back on the C: partition and it recognizes the D: partition. Leave it on there for the moment. I think I might have the "easy way to do it" figured out, but want to try it on one of my test boxes first...Which means I have to set up a dual boot system and wreck it on purpose .
