Welcome to GTG.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Let's delete all but most recent system restore points. Go to Start->Programs->Accessories->System Tools->Disc Cleanup-> and click on the 'More Options' Tab. Then click on 'Clean up...' button under the 'System Restore' section (the third box down).

Please download Ewido Security Suite at http://www.ewido.net/en/download/.

1. Install Ewido Security Suite.
2. When installing, under 'Additional Options' uncheck:
* Install background guard
* Install scan via context menu
3. Launch Ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop, double click it.
4. The program will now open to the main screen.
5. When you run Ewido for the first time, you will get a warning 'Database could not be found!'. Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
6. You will need to update Ewido to the latest definition files.
* On the left hand side of the main screen click update.
* Then click on Start Update.
7. The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed. The status bar at the bottom will display 'Update successful'.
8. Exit Ewido. DO NOT scan yet.

If you are having problems with the updater, you can go to http://www.ewido.net...wnload/updates/ to update manually.

Download CleanUp! http://cleanup.stevengould.org/ (Alternate Link if main link don't work - http://www.greyknigh...spy/CleanUp.exe ) and install it. Don't run it yet.

Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work.

CleanUp! deletes EVERYTHING out of your temp/temporary folders, it does not make backups. If you have any documents or programs that are saved in any Temporary Folders, please make a backup of these before running CleanUp!. Run CleanUp! and click on the Options button. Uncheck 'Scan local drives for temporary files'. Also uncheck those two Newsgroup entries if you don't want to delete them. Click OK and then click on the CleanUp! button. Let it run. After it's done, choose Yes to logoff.

Now open Ewido and do a scan on your system.

* Click on scanner
* Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
* NOTE: During some scans with Ewido it is finding cases of false positives.
o You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
o If Ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
o Do NOT select 'Perform action on all infections'
o If you are unsure of any entry found, select none for now as the action.
* Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
* Click Save report.
* Save the report .txt file to your desktop or a location where you can find it easily.

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = file:///C:/WINDOWS/system32/msblank.html
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {8C635B73-F3B4-9B90-0637-AD253CB8003A} - zantu.dll (file missing)

Do you recognize the below IP addresses? Confirm with your company or ISP to make sure they are correct. If not, then fix them also in HijackThis:

O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{01BEC5FE-1E43-4E71-9531-E553F634CE99}: NameServer = 195.95.218.18,85.255.112.11

Uninstall eBlocs/SpyBlocs via your Add/Remove panel.

Locate and delete the following:

C:/WINDOWS/system32/msblank.html
zantu.dll
C:\Program Files\websx\
PasswdMon.exe
systemdll.exe
control64.exe
___.exe
keybdll.exe
C:\Program Files\eBlocs\

Restart your computer. Post the logs for HijackThis and Ewido.

That doesn't look like the most recent/updated log. Please run a new HijackThis scan and click on Save Log when done. Copy and paste that whole new log that just opened here.

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer and uncheck the same box to enable System Restore.

Got back to work this morning and noticed that after starting Internet Explorer, I got a virus alert (hclean32.exe) from Norton. It was followed by a similar message from Windows XT. However, I no longer get a blank page when I start Internet Explorer and I can set my own home page. Also, I can now modify my toolbars.

You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://downloads.sub.../Fixwareout.exe
http://swandog46.gee.../Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, then make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish. The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

When your system reboots, follow the prompts. Afterwards, HijackThis will launch. Please click Scan, and check the following items:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = C:\Program Files\Copernic Agent\Web\SearchBar.htm - if you didn't install Copernic or don't want it as your search bar, then fix it also
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {8C635B73-F3B4-9B90-0637-AD253CB8003A} - zantu.dll (file missing)
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MNTP] control64.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [driver64] ___.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Preliminary] keybdll.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [SpyBlocs] C:\Program Files\eBlocs\SpyBlocs\GLF5E0.exe

Click Fix Checked. Close HijackThis, and click OK to proceed.

Delete these if found:

zantu.dll
control64.exe
___.exe
keybdll.exe
C:\Program Files\eBlocs\

Restart.

Finally, please post the contents of the logfile C:\fixwareout\report.txt, along with a new HijackThis log.

I downloaded FixWareout and ran it. It all ended with the following:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

c:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe

Archive: bfu.zip
End-of-central-directory signature not found. Either this file is not
a zipfile, or it constitutes one disk of a multi-part archive. In the
latter case the central directory and zipfile comment will be found on
the last disk(s) of this archive.
unzip: cannot find zipfile directory in bfu.zip,
and cannot find bfu.zip.zip, period.
BFU.exe was not present, unpacked or in proper location

Please make sure you have a working internet connection to
dowload BFU.exe, and restart the batch.
Press any key to continue…

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After I press any key to continue, the page goes away and nothing else follows.

I rebooted and retryed but nothing again.

What should I do?

Don't know what's wong...

Try this instead:

Download and run blacklite
F-Secure Blacklight: http://www.f-secure....light/try.shtml
leave [X]scan through windows explorer checked,
click > scan then > next
HCLEAN32.EXE, control.exe, keybdll.exe choose to let blacklite rename them
Do not rename "wbemtest.exe"
The tool will ask if you want to reboot (restart) choose yes.
Note: control.exe and keybdll.exe are (were) random named files.

After that's done, just continue on with the HijackThis fix...

I ran F-Secure Blacklight. There were 6 items found. I renamed Hclean32 and did not rename wbemtest.exe. There were no actions performed on the other four. I am not sure if you wanted me to rename all *.exe files so I didn't take a chance.

When I run F-Secure Blacklight again, I can still find Hclean but it is now Hclean32.exe.ren.

After this I ran HijacThis and fixed all the items you had mentionned in your previous post.

In your previous post, you also mention to delete (if found):
zantu.dll
control64.exe
___.exe
keybdll.exe
C:\Program Files\eBlocs\
I did a simple search from start menu and found nothing.

I restarted and ran HijacThis. The logfile is included below.
I also ran F-Secure Blacklight again and included the result below.

Download KillBox http://www.greyknigh...spy/KillBox.exe. Run KillBox and check the box that says 'End Explorer Shell While Killing File'. Next click on 'Delete on Reboot'. Copy the below files and go back to KillBox. Go to File->Paste from Clipboard and then hit the button with a red circle and white X. Confirm to delete and when asked if you want to reboot, say Yes:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\loadctr32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\rdsndin.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\hclean32.exe.ren
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ntfsnlpa.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\csegx.exe

If you get a PendingOperations message, just close it and restart your computer manually.

Your log is clean.

To help prevent future spyware installations/infections, please read the Anti-Spyware Tutorial and use the tools provided.

Are there any problems now? If not, you should be set to go.

I have used killbox.exe as requested.

So far, no virus warnings.

New problems:

-Yesterday there was a warning about virtual memory being too low and the system had to, somehow compensate.

-After a reboot the system seems to be fine, but the more the time goes by, the slower the system gets.

-There seems to be constant activity on the hard drive.

-Comming out of screen saver takes unusualy long time.

-Unusualy long time to shut down.

-Every now and then, the screen goes completely dark for about 5 seconds then comes back.

I am including below a the Hijackthis logfile.

Try disabling some programs from startup by fixing these in HijackThis:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NeroFilterCheck] C:\WINDOWS\system32\NeroCheck.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [InCD] C:\Program Files\Ahead\InCD\InCD.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MSMSGS] "C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe" /background
O4 - Global Startup: Adobe Reader Speed Launch.lnk = C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Reader\reader_sl.exe
O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\OSA9.EXE

Restart and see if you still get any problems with Virtual Memory. I don't think there's really much we can do here, except maybe increate the pagefile size or better yet, add more memory to your computer.

My computer is back to what it use to be and now it even has some added problems.
The only problem that was resolved was the Internet Explorer home page accessibility.
Now your are throwing the towell.
Can I get a second opinion.

Yes, get a second opinion in the Windows forum. They should help you troubleshoot that virtual memory more as this forum is mainly for malware (that's why we usually don't solve those problems here - we try to do it as soon as we can, but if that doesn't fix it, you have to post in the proper forum).

We did remove a lot of junk from your computer though so that was the main concern. The virtual memory problem is not good either, but at least you are trojan free now :tazz:

Post in the Windows Forum and you should get a better (more in-depth) reply there hopefully.
