I feel so much better about fighting the battle on one front rather than many. Thanks for doing that. When you are clean, if you want to, you can recreate those profiles very quickly.

I am going to try two things here, VundoFix with Spy Sweeper. The file we are trying to get rid of is the Vundo downloader, vundo is already dead. If this doesn't do it, I have a longer fix which will do it.

Firstly could you please disable Microsoft Antispyware from running during the fix, it may just hinder our attempts to change anything. Right click on the icon (looks like an archery target) in the task bar and click on Security Agents Status (Enabled) then click on Disable Real-time Protection. To re enable it, you follow the same steps but click on Enable Real-time Protection.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files
  • This will create a VundoFix folder on your desktop.
  • After the files are extracted, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
  • Once in safe mode open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat
  • You will first be presented with a warning.
    It should look like this

    Press enter to continue....


  • At this point press enter once.

  • Next you will see:

    Please Type in the filepath as instructed by the forum staff
    and then press enter:


  • At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):
    • C:\WINDOWS\system32\jkhhf.dll

  • Press Enter to continue with the fix.

  • Next you will see:

    Please type in the second filepath as instructed by the forum
    staff then press enter:

  • At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!): C:\WINDOWS\system32\fhhkj.*
  • Press Enter to continue with the fix.
  • The fix will run then HijackThis will open, if it does not open automatically please open it manually.
  • In HiJackThis, please place a check next to the following items and click FIX CHECKED: O2 - BHO: (no name) - {00DBDAC8-4691-4797-8E6A-7C6AB89BC441} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\jkhhf.dll
    O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {8DBF02DA-4360-4A7E-BEA1-347B87816327} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\mljjk.dll (file missing)
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: jkhhf - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\jkhhf.dll
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: mljjk - C:\WINDOWS\system32\mljjk.dll (file missing)
  • After you have fixed these items, close Hijackthis.
  • Press enter to exit the programme then manually reboot your computer.
  • Once your machine reboots please continue with the instructions below.
Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programmes menu).
Set the programme up as follows:
Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):
  • Empty Recycle Bins
  • Delete Cookies
  • Delete Prefetch files
  • Cleanup! All Users
Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the programme.

It may ask you to reboot at the end, click NO.

Download the Trial Version Spy Sweeper

Please install it and scan the whole of your PC.

The first time you run Spy Sweeper, you'll be asked to update the definitions. Please click Yes

Once the definitions are updated, Spy Sweeper is ready to scan your system. Please click Sweep Now.

Please reply with a new HiJackThis log and the vundofix.txt file from the vundofix folder into this topic.

hello dave here again.....thanks again for your time in helping me with this problem. heres where i stand so far....spysweeper found 2 things. virtumonde and trojan horse downloader-conhook. i followed all of your instructions and i am giving you my hijacklog and vundo text file...........hope im getting closer to getting rid of this..........thanks again my friend

I will admit that the last fix was the first time I had used SpySweeper for it, so it was something of an experiment. Let me explain; conhook is the downloader for vundo but not in itself vundo. Normally when vundo downloads successfully, conhook deletes itself. In your case, one of the profiles was interfering with that part, so you had a self-perpetuating cycle of conhook and vundo. The vundo author told me some time ago that his fix would not kill the conhook, only those BHO's starting with MSEvents, but then on 17th October, he changed it to the latest version.

I have the fix in a longer format for the conhook, but now I know that SpySweeper does it too.

Anyway, looking at your log, you have a very minor adjustment to make, so I'll give you that at the same time as my sign-off :tazz:

Rescan with HijackThis. Close all programmes leaving only HijackThis running. Place a checkmark or tick against the following:

O20 - Winlogon Notify: jkhhf - jkhhf.dll (file missing)

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

With the exception of that...................................

Congratulations! your new log is clean. :) Just a little bit more to do to prevent further infection.

Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove bad files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programmes changing them. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected.)

To reset your restore points, please note that you will need to log into your computer with an account which has full administrator access. You will know if the account has administrator access because you will be able to see the System Restore tab. If the tab is missing, you are logged in under a limited account.

(Windows XP)
1. Turn off System Restore.On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
2. Reboot.

3. Turn ON System Restore.On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
I recommend going to the following link and update as recommended by Microsoft. This adds more security and extra features including a pop-up blocker for Internet Explorer. Microsoft Update

Now that everything is fixed, I suggest that you consider getting these programmes to help keep the computer clean:

SPYWARE BLASTER - Blocks bad ActiveX items from installing on your computer.
AD-AWARE PERSONAL – A fine free malware detector and removal programme
SPYBOT S&D – Excellent free spyware detector and removal programme
GOOGLE TOOLBAR - Blocks many unwanted pop-ups in Internet Explorer.
FIREFOX - Safer alternative to the Internet Explorer web browser.
AVG ANTIVIRUS FREE EDITION - Free antivirus programme if you currently are not using one.
ZONEALARM - Free firewall programme if you currently are not using one (Windows XP has a built-in firewall).

Remember to update these frequently.

Please note that whilst there is nothing wrong in having more than one antispyware programmes for “on demand” scanning, having two or more antivirus systems is not recommended as they may well interfere with each other.
