ok got this virus...probably from kazaa. i tried to reload windows. all of my factory settings were restored, but all of the programs that i have download or installed remained. i have looked around for the last couple of days to find a way to remove this virus. no luck. i have tried adaware, spywareblaster, bazooka, spybot search and destroy, and finally hijackthis. i came across this website and read a post from spitgirll?. looked like she got good help. administrators said for her to submit a log file from her hijackthis scan. so here is mine. any help would be awesome.

i completed all the suggested steps in the "You Must Read This Before Posting A Hijackthis Log" post. after the avg completed its scan, it stated i had no viruses. as i was reading the results, i got several pop ups indicating i had the bloodhound.w32.ep virus. the message stated that these files were unrepairable:

system32/spnping.exe
system32/jecust.exe
system32/openconf.exe
32/nlsfuncs.exe
32/win.hlp32.exe
32/unlodctl.exe

Hi frank

I also suspect a VX2 INFECTION we will look for that after this fix

1) You may wish to print out a copy of these instructions to follow while you complete this procedure.

2)Be sure you're able to view hidden files,

3)Please download About Buster. Please unzip the program and update it, dont run it yet we will need later

4)Download CWShredder from http://www.intermute...r_download.html
Use the Fix button.Dont run it yet we will need later

5) Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items, then click fix checked.

hey thatman thanks for the quick reply...2 questions before i get started.
first is this...step 5 says go offline...can i go back online after that step or should i remain offline during the whole procedure?
second is this....in your post it jumps from step 6 to step nine. it then goes to 8 and then 7. is this a typo or is it correct?

just wanted to make sure i was clear on those things before i started.

thanks again frank

Hi frank

If you hava any problems just post back wil ask for this thread to stay open

Congratulations! Your system is CLEAN :tazz:

How do you prevent spyware from being installed again? We strongly recommend installing SpywareBlaster (it's free for personal use). Click Here
QUOTE
Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests.
Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.
Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.
Consumes no system resources.

Download, run, check for updates, download updates, select all, protect against checked. All done. Check for updates every couple of weeks. If you have any errors running the program like a missing file see the link at the bottom of the javacool page.

It's also very important to keep your system up to date to avoid unnecessary security risks. Click Here http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ to make sure that you have the latest patches for Windows.

These next two steps are optional, but will provide the greatest protection.
1. Use ANY browser besides Internet Explorer, almost every exploit is crafted to take advantage of an IE weakness. We usually recommend FireFox user posted image.
2. Install Sun's Java. It's much more secure than Microsoft's Java Virtual Machine .

It's okay to delete the Hijack This folder if everything is working okay.

After doing all these, your system will be thoroughly protected from future threats. kc ;)
