Hello,

The bloodhound.w32 virus has infected my computer :) . I think I have mostly removed it, but there are still a few lingering issues. Before getting into the details here is a list of the things have already done and/or installed and/or ran to fix the problems:

cleanmgr
mozilla firefox instead IE
CleanUp!
Ad-aware SE
CW Shredder
Spybot S&D
Ewido
TrendHousecall
Trojan Hunter
AVG Antivirus
Spyware Blaster
Sygate personal Firewall
Windows Service Pack 1a

OK, first here is the list or remaining issues:

1)When I first log on a pop up comes up with the message 'You may have spyware on your system, Click Here to get rid of it'

2)Windows messenger keeps trying to access the internet (real problem?) despite the fact I have uninstalled it...

3) (Thanks to Sygate) I know other 'Programs/files' are trying to access the internet as well. Again I'll admit that I don't know if any of these are really a problem. All I know is that is that I block them and my computer still runs. Here's a list:
-svchost.exe (receives packets and the trys to access the internet)
-msmsgs.exe (Windows messenger)
-ndisuio.sys
-lsass.exe
-ntoskrnl.exe

Here's a list of things that have been taken care with all credits to the list of things this website has told me to do (thanks!):
1) when it first installed itself on my computer a couple dozen shortcuts appeared on my desktop
2) IE opened automatically and display a page that said things like 'your computer is wide open and people can read anything on your computer. your records indicate you have visited websites containing the words: pornography, gay, sex, ..... etc etc..... click here if you don't want this spread all over". Anyway you get the drift. It was also accompanied by vary scary noises :tazz:
3) It would try to send out hundreds of emails... essentially freezing my computer
4) 'Get rid of spyware pages' and [bleep] pages would automatically pop up
I think there was more... but I don't remember anymore and it stopped doing it anyway...

When this first infected my computer a month or so ago I did everything asked, but never got around to posting (my computer was mostly fine again unless I used IE and the pop up when the computer is started). The reason I knew it was bloodhound was that Norton picked it up but couldn't fix it... norton was old outdated and now unstalled. IE doesn't seem to have any problems any more, but I don't really use it anymore either... Today I updated all the programs (and ran them) and still have the problems I listed above (small and not nearly as bad as it was initially). I would install SP2, but on the this site it asked not to install it until I was positive the virus was gone.

Which leads to my questions.

-How do I know the virus is gone?
-Can you help get rid of it?
-Should those programs/files be trying to broadcast out?
-How do I get rid of the pop up at startup?

Thank you for the help! It's great that this website is here and people are willing to give their own time to help us lay people. If there is anything needed from me to help me, let me know!

As requested the HijackThis log is pasted below.

Thanks again,
Sean Wagner
