Ok, I see the responsible file now:

C:\windows\system32\nzrwpxaflc.exe

Check and fix next entry in hijackthis:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [nzrwpxaflc] c:\windows\system32\nzrwpxaflc.exe -start

Then Go to start > run and copy and paste next command in the field:

c:\windows\system32\nzrwpxaflc.exe -uninstall

Click OK

Delete next file:

c:\windows\system32\nzrwpxaflc.exe

Run the BFU-fix again as I explained earlier. Open BFU.exe, choose the folder (right next to the field)
Click it and browse to the EGDACCESS.bfu and select it.
So EGDACCESS.bfu must be in the 'scriptfile to executefield.
Click Execute in BFU.exe

If you're having problems with deleting nzrwpxaflc.exe, perform above steps in Safe mode then.

Post a new hijackthislog afterwards.

I see you have just posted, so I will give that a try.

well, the BFU-fix removes the msclock.dll, so that's why it is important you run it also. Please perform this in the order I gave. If you are noticing any problems, perform it in Safe mode.

I am at work now. I was in the middle of deleting those files when I ran out of time and had to leave. Interesting though that I could not find the file that you told me to check and fix in Hijackthis, so I went to safe mode and ran Hijackthis and then I was able to find it. Also, when I went to reboot to go to safe mode, I got a box that told me to wait while nzrwpxalc shuts down. This is the first time that I have ever seen that, so you must be on the right track.

After you had stated to go to start >run and copy c:\windows\system32\nzrwpxaflc.exe -uninstall, you had said to "delete the next file" and then you listed the next file name. Am I supposed to fix that in hijackthis or actually go into the system32 folder and delete that .exe program? I went in to system32 and could not find that program. That is when I had to leave.

yes, fix in hijackthis and delete the file manually.
Are your hidden folders and files visible? If no,

Click Start.
Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm.
Click OK.

If you can't find it, it's ok. Just post a new hijackthislog afterwards. Could be possible the filename changed as it has done before.

I never was able to find the file
c:\windows\system32\nzrwpxaflc.exe
in either hijackthis or the actual system32 folder. I did delete 3 .dat files called nzrwpxaflc though.

I did everything else that you said to do in order though.

Here is the latest hijackthis log:

Hi, well if you couldn't find the file, it must be gone, because I've let you use this command: c:\windows\system32\nzrwpxaflc.exe -uninstall
(uninstalling it)

Anyway, I see in your log that McAfee has to perform a job after reboot, so I suggest you reboot now.

After reboot, please post a new Silent Runners-log as you did before, so I can see if there's a new one present or not. :tazz:

Hi,

Your silent runnerslog looks clean. No new file/entry is getting created, so I think the problem must be fixed now.

How are things running?

:tazz: Ahhhh... It worked! Thank you so much!

Just to be sure, I scanned my computer with McAfee Virus Scan. It looks like it just cleaned up some remaining fragment. It said that there was one PUP on there called Navipromo (which is what McAfee called it everytime I had to accept the PUP before). It was able to just clean it. No other problems.

Glad to hear it is fixed. Yes, McAfee deleted some leftovers now and it was able to delete them now. :tazz:

To keep this clean in the future, I would suggest the following things:

Install Spywareblaster
SpywareBlaster doesn`t scan and clean for so-called spyware, but prevents it from being installed in the first place. It blocks the popular spyware ActiveX controls, and also prevents the installation of any of them via a webpage.

Avoid illegal sites, because that's where most malware is present.

Let your antispywarescanner(s) scan frequently and don't forget to update before.

And I do suggest you perform an online virusscan once in a while. (Housecall and/or Bitdefender). Because what one virusscanner can't find another one maybe can.
Also make sure that your virusscanner, the one that is installed on your system is always up to date!

Make sure your windows has the latest updates, so visit asap: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ to update to SP2!!

If you are having XP SP2, read here how to configure Security Features for Internet Explorer:
http://www.microsoft...xp/iesecxp.mspx

More info on how to prevent malware you can also find here (By Tony Klein)

Happy surfing again! :)
