Hi, right around the same time I noticed that wildtangent had installed itself in my control panel and I was bombarded with ads from winfixer and kept having my browser redirected. My computer is running impossibly slow and now my Mcaffe virus scan has identified an Aware-Virtumondo file but it cannot delete it. It says that it is the in Windows System 32 folder and called ljhed.dll I ran all the programs that were suggested on this site but they did not find Virtumondo. I am on a Dell laptop on windows XP and have upgraded to Service Pack 2. Here is my Hijack log:

sarahlina,

Welcome to the GTG Forums, I will be reviewing your HJT log.
Please read "ALL" of the instructions before proceeding:

You will need to print out these instructions for a reference or you can
save them by copying and pasting them into notepad and saving the text file to the desktop.

This process will take a few steps, please take your time and follow the directions in the order posted.
If you don't understand something please ask before performing any task..

I need you do one thing first before we start on the fix.
Please follow these directions first, then proceed with the fix as instructed.

Please download Suspicious File Packer and unzip it to your desktop.

Now double-click on sfp.exe, it will launch a new window. Paste the following into that window.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\rjkylonq.dll
Now click continue, this will create a .zip file on your desktop. Email that file to the following email address.

rstones12 AT geekstogo DOT com

AT = @
DOT = .

Once you have emailed me that file then proceed with the rest of the fix.

Now do the following:

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files
  • This will create a VundoFix folder on your desktop.
  • After the files are extracted, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
  • Once in safe mode open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat
  • You will first be presented with a warning.
    It should look like this

    VundoFix V2.15 by Atri
By using VundoFix you agree that you are doing so at your own risk
    Press enter to continue....

  • At this point press enter one time.
  • Next you will see:

Please Type in the filepath as instructed by the forum staff member and then press enter:

  • At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):
    • C:\WINDOWS\system32\ljhed.dll
  • Press Enter to continue with the fix.
  • Next you will see:

Please type in the second filepath as instructed by the forum
    staff then press enter:

  • At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):
C:\WINDOWS\system32\dehjl.*
  • Press Enter to continue with the fix.
  • The fix will run then HijackThis will open, if it does not open automatically please open it manually.
  • In HiJackThis, please place a checkmark next to each of the following items:

O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {6DD0BC06-4719-4BA3-BEBC-FBAE6A448152} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ljhed.dll
O2 - BHO: Bho - {EFDAC3FE-F44A-4030-8589-1E23BC6573D5} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\rjkylonq.dll
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {FDD3B846-8D59-4ffb-8758-209B6AD74ACC} - (no file)

O20 - Winlogon Notify: ljhed - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ljhed.dll

  • Make sure you have no open windows except HJT, the click the Fix Checked button.
  • After you have fixed these items, close Hijackthis.
  • Press enter to exit the program then manually reboot your computer.
  • Once your machine reboots please continue with the instructions below.
Download and install CleanUp!

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):
  • Empty Recycle Bins
  • Delete Cookies
  • Delete Prefetch files
  • Cleanup! All Users
Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.

It may ask you to reboot at the end, click NO.

Then, please run this online virus scan: ActiveScan

Copy the results of the ActiveScan and paste them here along with a new HiJackThis log and the vundofix.txt file from the vundofix folder into this topic by using Add Reply.

Thanks,

I was not able to run Active Scan - I received this error message:

Possible causes of this error are:

Not allowing the application's ActiveX control to be downloaded.

Problems with the Internet connection.

The error could be due to a download error or an installation error due to lack of hard disk space, privileges etc.,...

sarahlina,

Please read "ALL" of the instructions before proceeding:

You will need to print out these instructions for a reference or you can
save them by copying and pasting them into notepad and saving the text file to the desktop.

This process will take a few steps, please take your time and follow the directions in the order posted.
If you don't understand something please ask before performing any task..

Please download Pocket Killbox
Click Here to download Pocket Killbox by Option^Explicit.
Save the file to your desktop, don't run it just yet.

O20 - Winlogon Notify: ljhed - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ljhed.dll (file missing)

Now close all browsers and open windows except HJT, then click the Fix Checked button. Close HJT.

Now lets run Killbox
  • Double-click on Killbox.exe to start the program.
  • In the killbox program, select the Delete on Reboot option.
  • In the field labeled Full Path of File to Delete enter the file paths listed below ONE AT A TIME (EXACTLY as it appears, please double check to make sure!):

C:\WINDOWS\system32\rjkylonq.dll

  • Press the button that looks like a red circle with a white X in it after each one.
  • When it asks if you would like to delete on reboot, press the YES button, when it asks if you want to reboot now, press the NO button.
  • Do this after each one until you have entered the LAST file path I have listed above.
  • After that LAST file path has been entered, press the YES button at both prompts so that your computer restarts.
  • If you receive a message and your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.
Once your system has rebooted into Normal Mode, try to run ActiveScan, if that is succesful post those results here.. Then post a new HJT log by using Add Reply.

Thanks,

Well - now it just worked fine. But before, the message said something about an error with netscape.cll. Also, is it bad to still have wildtangent still in there? Also, my computer had been taking so long to start up - I don't know if this was cause of the virus or if I have uneccesary program set to run at start up - how can I check that?

Thanks for all your time so far and I'm glad to hear it is looking better...

Windows does seem to be working back at it's normal speed but one of the issues, the first one I noticed after I got the virus, still remains. I can't play any DVDs in any media programs (Windows Media, Interwin Video, Realtime) without horrible freezing and choppy playback. This was the first problem I had noticed right around when I started getting alerts from Mcaffee.

sarahlina,

It looks like you are posting in another forum...

http://forums.mcafeehelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=56984

The error you are getting is from Visual IP InSight a program from Visual Networks installed on your computer.

Here is a workaround for that...
  • Click Start, click Run, type appwiz.cpl, and then click OK.
  • Click Visual IP InSight in the Add or Remove Programs list, and then click Remove.
  • In the Confirm File Deletion dialog box, click Yes.
Reboot your system and see if that error goes away....

Then post a new HJT log and we will take a look..

Thanks,
rstones12

I just got a new message from Mcafee - Adware Virtumondo came back!!! Why? It is now in the C:\System Volume Information\_restore folder. Mcafee said it was able to remove it but I don't know.

Yes, I had posted there first - but I told the guy who responded to me that I was going to try another site. I wasn't cheating.
