Hello,

Pasted below is the log from a relative's computer which is greatly infected with spyware. I have some experience with cleaning an infected computer such as this and have identified much of the bad stuff contained in this log. However, before proceeding, there are some entries I'm not sure about and could use some guidance. I know that all the O10 entries need fixing as do most of the O16s. Also, all entries with regards to "idynp.exe" and "oemji.com" need fixing as does the O3 entry. Lastly, I know some of the R1s and other O4s need fixing but I believe I'm missing some.

Thanks for any help you can provide!

Hello and welcome to GeeksToGo Forums. We hope you enjoy your stay here! :tazz:

You may want to print out these instructions or save them to your desktop as a text file with Notepad because we will be restarting into Safe Mode later on in the fix and you might not be able to access the Internet.

Your log shows that you are running SpyKiller and Spyware Vanisher. SpyKiller and Spyware Vanisher are known rogue/suspect anti-spyware products. I suggest you uninstall them. See the Rogue/Suspect Anti-Spyware Products and Websites list for much more information.

A malicious .DLL file is disrupting the LSP chain on your computer. We need to get rid of it.
  • Please download LSPFix from here.
  • Run the LSPFix.exe that you have just finished downloading.
  • Check the "I know what I'm doing" box.
  • In the Keep box you should see one or more instances of aklsp.dll, calsp.dll, and sfbnsp.dll.
  • Select every instance of aklsp.dll, calsp.dll, and sfbnsp.dll and move each one to the Remove box by clicking the ">>" button.
  • When you are done click "Finish>>".
Place a checkmark next to these entries, close all browsers and windows, and have HijackThis fix them by clicking Fix Checked:

Reconfigure Windows XP to show hidden files:
Click Start. Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options. Select the View Tab.

Under the Hidden files and folders heading select "Show hidden files and folders".
Uncheck the "Hide protected operating system files (recommended)" option.
Uncheck the "Hide file extensions for known file types" option.
Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.

Boot into Safe Mode:
Restart your computer and immediately begin tapping the F8 key on your keyboard.
If done right a Windows Advanced Options menu will appear. Select the Safe Mode option and press Enter.
To return to normal mode just restart your computer as you normally would.

Please remove these entries from Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel(if present):

SpyKiller
Spyware Vanisher

Please delete these folders using Windows Explorer(if present):

C:\spywarevanisher-free
C:\Program Files\ISTsvc
c:\program files\oemji
C:\Program Files\SpyKiller

Please delete these files using Windows Explorer(if present):

C:\Documents and Settings\Dad\Application Data\eetu.exe
C:\WINDOWS\idynp.exe
c:\windows\system32\aklsp.dll
c:\windows\system32\calsp.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\hnghec.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\logcurs.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\mcdloader.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\smctqc.exe

We need to do a search. Start | Search | For Files and Folders.
Expand Search Options, check Advanced Options, check Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search Subfolders.
Paste this into the Search for files and folders named box:

"msawindows.exe","EGDACCESS_1056.dll","soundtask.exe"

If any of them are found delete them.

Now you can restart the computer normally.
Please run HijackThis again and post a fresh log, just so I can make sure that all the malware was deleted according to plan. ;)

Thank you very much for the response. All recommended changes were made. However, the line items related to "idynp.exe" could not be fixed. Also, the recycle bin will not empty. The computer now can access the Internet, web pages can be viewed, and email retrieved. Lastly, I just noticed that Elite Tool Bar now is appearing and needs removing.

Thanks again for your help!

You may want to print out these instructions or save them to your desktop as a text file with Notepad because we will be restarting into Safe Mode later on in the fix and you might not be able to access the Internet.

Place a checkmark next to these entries, close all browsers and windows, and have HijackThis fix them by clicking Fix Checked:

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Yahoo! Pager] 1
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ZBp2RQYmW] ulicoins.exe

Please delete these folders using Windows Explorer(if present):

C:\Program Files\AutoUpdate
C:\Program Files\ISTsvc
C:\WINDOWS\EliteToolBar

Please delete these files using Windows Explorer(if present):

C:\WINDOWS\idynp.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ulicoins.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\unthept.exe

Now you can restart the computer normally.
Please run HijackThis again and post a fresh log, just so I can make sure that all the malware was deleted according to plan. :tazz:

Thanks for the ongoing help! Please see attached the latest log. We still cannot empty the recycle bin and the entries containing "idynp.exe" still will not delete.

Truly appreciate your help!

Launch Notepad, and copy/paste the box below into a new text file. Save it as Export.bat and save it on your Desktop.
cd\
regedit /e /a HKCURun.txt "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run"
regedit /e /a HKLMRun.txt "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run"

copy HKLMRun.txt + HKCURun.txt = Output.txt
notepad Output.txt
Locate Export.bat on your Desktop and double-click on it. This will open Notepad with some text in it. Post that.
