In the light of fair use and making legal backups of media you own, I would recommend using a program to rip the DVD data to your hard drive that will remove the copy protection in the process. There a number of options, but many people use the free DVDFab Decrypter. It is very basic, but does exactly what it needs to do. Once the data is on your hard drive, you should be able to use your program to create the backup without problems. Link to DVDFab Decrypter is below:

Hi guys I just recently bought me a new computer with a dvd burner, I also bought some Blank Memorex 4.7gig dvd's I am using a program called dvd cloner, what I am trying to accomplish is to take movies I own, and make copies of them, that way I can keep the original brand new and in great condition. Now the program records them fine, with the exception of getting halfway through the movie it will freeze on me. I did however succesfully backed up one of my older movies "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back" this movie plays with no problem, does anyone have any suggestions to why this is happening? Thanks and have a wonderful day everyone.
