I have a trojan or spyware called virtumondo on my system. I was able to scan in MS AntiSpyware Beta1 and it found virtumondo in the registry. I was able to get rid of those registry keys so MS AntiSpyware B1 does not find anymore. However, the files are on my system as BHO's, in the system start up ini files. Both of the files in question (and I may have more from this hijackthis scan) are:
c:\windows\system32\jkhfe.dll (MS Events Object)
c:\windows\system32\jkkjj.dll (virtumondo)
I am constantly having unwanted pop-ups come up. Nothing I do can remove these files from my system. MS AntiSpyware B1 cannot remove the MS Events Object jkhfe.dll as it is hooked to IE and also the BHO's.
Here is my hijackthis can:

Hello Steven and welcome to Geeks to Go

As an introduction, please note that I am not Superhuman, I do not know everything, but what I do know has taken me years to learn. I am happy to pass on this information to you, but please bear in mind that I am also fallible.

Please note that you should have Administrator rights to perform the fixes. Also note that multiple identity PC’s (family PC’s) present a different problem; please tell me if your PC has more than one individual’s setting.

Before we get underway, you may wish to print these instructions for easy reference during the fix, although please be aware that many of the required URLs are hyperlinks in the red names shown on your screen. Part of the fix may require you to be in Safe Mode, which will not allow you to access the internet, or my instructions!

You have quite the dreaded Virtumonde (Vundo B) infection and ConHook. Let’s see what we can do with the first sweep.

Is this something that you know of: http://4safefilter.com/skmbaj.pac ?

I note that you are running HijackThis from its zipped archive; please create a new folder for it (for example C:\Program Files\Hijackthis\Hijackthis.exe) and move the programme into it. It is very important you do this before anything else since backup files can be deleted if they are not within their own folder!

Firstly could you please disable Microsoft Antispyware from running during the fix, it may just hinder our attempts to change anything. Right click on the icon (looks like an archery target) in the task bar and click on Security Agents Status (Enabled) then click on Disable Real-time Protection. To re enable it, you follow the same steps but click on Enable Real-time Protection.

Please also disable Spyware Doctor for the same reason.

When your PC has been declared clean, please only enable one of those two programmes to run in real-time. All others should be used as “on demand” scanners. Having more than one antispyware programme running in real-time will cause slowness and even conflicts.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files
  • This will create a VundoFix folder on your desktop.
  • After the files are extracted, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
  • Once in safe mode open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat
  • You will first be presented with a warning.
    It should look like this

    VundoFix V2.15 by Atri
By using VundoFix you agree that you are doing so at your own risk
    Press enter to continue....

  • At this point press enter once.
  • Next you will see:

Please Type in the filepath as instructed by the forum staff
    and then press enter:

  • At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):
    • C:\WINDOWS\system32\jkkjj.dll
  • Press Enter to continue with the fix.
  • Next you will see:

Please type in the second filepath as instructed by the forum
    staff then press enter:

  • At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!): C:\WINDOWS\system32\jjkkj.*
  • Press Enter to continue with the fix.
  • The fix will run then HijackThis will open, if it does not open automatically please open it manually.
  • In HiJackThis, please place a check next to the following items and click FIX CHECKED: O2 - BHO: (no name) - {00DBDAC8-4691-4797-8E6A-7C6AB89BC441} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\jkhfe.dll
    O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {6DD0BC06-4719-4BA3-BEBC-FBAE6A448152} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\jkkjj.dll
    O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {08B0E5C0-4FCB-11CF-AAA5-00401C608501} - blank (file missing)
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Sun Java Console - {08B0E5C0-4FCB-11CF-AAA5-00401C608501} - blank (file missing)
    O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {CD67F990-D8E9-11d2-98FE-00C0F0318AFE} - (no file)
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: jkhfe - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\jkhfe.dll
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: jkkjj - C:\WINDOWS\system32\jkkjj.dll
  • After you have fixed these items, close Hijackthis.
  • Press enter to exit the programme then manually reboot your computer.
  • Once your machine reboots please continue with the instructions below.
Download and install CleanUp!

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programmes menu).
Set the programme up as follows:
Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):
  • Empty Recycle Bins
  • Delete Cookies
  • Delete Prefetch files
  • Cleanup! All Users
Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the programme.

It may ask you to reboot at the end, click NO.

Then, please run this online virus scan: SpyXposer

Copy the results of the SpyXposer scan and paste them here along with a new HiJackThis log and the vundofix.txt file from the vundofix folder into this topic.

Hi Crustyoldbloke. I have multiple identities s/u on my system. My wife and three kids all have their own identities and passwords/settings, etc. The 4safefilter.com is a [bleep] filter for IE. It is affixed in the proxy settings. I also have on other computers in the house and none have shown be a problem. I will move hijackthis to a c:\ folder as you instruct. At this point since you now know that my system has multiple identities, I will wait for your next instructions (other than moving the hijackthis file).

Thanks!

I also scanned with CSWShredder and found this on my system:
VX2.Look2Me. CSWShredder cannot seem to remove this infection either. I have no idea how this got onto my system and now causing more havock in IE. Man, this system is pretty bad off. Maybe a complete wipe out of the HD and reload? The computer is a DELL Dimension only 2 years old.
Also, TrojanHunter 4.2 from Mischel Security found the Virtumonde.111 jkkjj.dll file in System32
I heard from more than one person that firefox is much more secure to use and will prevent these types of trojans, spyware, and infections from ever getting their grip on the system files. What is your take on completely switching to firefox (that is after I get this system cleaned up).

Thanks!

Hello again

Please continue with the fix in the same profile settings that produced the HJT log.

In your reply, please post a fresh HJT log for all users marking them accordingly to save confusion.

Please do not forget the other logs I require.

Sorry, this path for vundofix.exe hangs up on my IE:
http://www.atribune....ds/VundoFix.exe

I navigated to the Atribune.org site and could not find the VundoFix.exe file. Here is what I did find:

Written by Administrator
Wednesday, 07 September 2005
Alot of time was spent developing VundoFix.zip. Figuring out how to remove the infection in the easiest possible way.

In the last few weeks a new variant of Virtumonde aka Vundo was released and Vundofix.zip no longer worked.

A new VundoFix has been released and I am proud to say so far it has had great success. If you are here at Atribune.org seeking assistance for Vundo removal please visit the forum
http://www.atribune.org/forums

I recommend you start out on the forum by visiting this thread and following all the provided instructions
http://www.atribune....p?showtopic=424

Is the infection/trojan actually preventing me from getting this file? I am going to try and send my self the file from another computer via email. What are your thoughts?

Hello again

It looks as though the malware you have is preventing you from cleaning it out. I have just been to the URL I advised and had no problem in downloading the VundoFix, so I am going to recommend that you download Mozilla Firefox to replace your Internet Explorer, which may be the problem.

Firefox Firefox is similar in appearance to IE but much safer and, when you get used to it, much better.

Please install FF and continue with the fix as written, although the Active scan will only work with IE, so instead
please follow this link for an on-line scan which supports the Firefox browser
Housecall Firefox Please post the result of the scan in this thread.
