Notify DLL Hijacker

Hi there!

I have got a browser hijacker on my computer which I don't get rid of it.
I've already run several programs e.g. Spybot S&D, AdAware, Kaspersky AntiVirus, Norton AntiVirus and AdwareAway.
None of them except AdwareAway found anything.

I already followed the steps in this topic, but it doesn't work because when I try to delete the malware, Windows tells me like "The Process can't take access on the file, because another process does it..." (I'm not really good in english :tazz: ).
And everytime I reboot my computer, the malware has another filename.

Hi Benjamin,

You have the latest version of VX2. Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

if you receive, while running option #1, an error similar like: ''C:\windows\system32\cmd.exe
C:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt the system file is not suitable for running ms-dos and microsoft windows applications. choose close to terminate the application.."...then please use option 5 or the web page link in the l2mfix folder to solve this error condition. do not run the fix portion without fixing this first.

Unfortunately l2mfix cannot remove this latest variant alone, we will have to use another program in accordance with it.. When Spysweeper wants to reboot and remove some files on reboot, allow it to do so..

Please download WebRoot SpySweeper from HERE (It's a 2 week trial):
  • Click the Free Trial link under to "SpySweeper" to download the program.
  • Install it. Once the program is installed, it will open.
  • It will prompt you to update to the latest definitions, click Yes.
  • Once the definitions are installed, click Options on the left side.
  • Click the Sweep Options tab.
  • Under What to Sweep please put a check next to the following:
    • Sweep Memory
    • Sweep Registry
    • Sweep Cookies
    • Sweep All User Accounts
    • Enable Direct Disk Sweeping
    • Sweep Contents of Compressed Files
    • Sweep for Rootkits
    • Please UNCHECK Do not Sweep System Restore Folder.
  • Click Sweep Now on the left side.
  • Click the Start button.
  • When it's done scanning, click the Next button.
  • Make sure everything has a check next to it, then click the Next button.
  • It will remove all of the items found.
  • Click Session Log in the upper right corner, copy everything in that window.
  • Click the Summary tab and click Finish.
  • Paste the contents of the session log you copied into your next reply along with a new option1 log and a new HijackThis log.

There are a few leftovers, let's try to get them with l2mfix..

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter, then press any key to reboot your computer. After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so!

If after the reboot the desktop icons dont dissappear or the log does not pop up then in the l2mfix folder double click the second.bat file to continue with the fix.

I'm 41 years old :tazz:

We have some final cleaning to do, but we have to disable some programs first as they can interfere with the fixes..

To disable SpySweeper Shields
  • Click Shields on the left.
  • Click Internet Explorer and uncheck all items.
  • Click Windows System and uncheck all items.
  • Click Startup Programs and uncheck all items.
  • Exit Spysweeper.
To disable Teatimer,
  • Open Spybot Search & Destroy.
  • In the Mode menu click "Advanced mode" if not already selected.
  • Choose "Yes" at the Warning prompt.
  • Expand the "Tools" menu.
  • Click "Resident".
  • Uncheck the "Resident "TeaTimer" (Protection of overall system settings) active." box.
  • In the File menu click "Exit" to exit Spybot Search & Destroy.
Now open HijackThis and click Scan. Put a check next to these:

O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {42CDD1BF-3FFB-4238-8AD1-7859DF00B1D6} - (no file)
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {0B53EAC3-8D69-4b9e-9B19-A37C9A5676A7} - (no file)

If you didn't install this service yourself to remote access your computer, put a check next to this as well, if you did install, leave it alone.

O23 - Service: Remote Packet Capture Protocol v.0 (experimental) (rpcapd) - Unknown owner - %ProgramFiles%\WinPcap\rpcapd.exe" -d -f "%ProgramFiles%\WinPcap\rpcapd.ini (file missing)

Close all other windows except HijackThis and click Fix Checked.

If you are going to get rid of that service, Go to Start > Run and type: cmd

In the command window that opens type the following line:

sc delete rpcapd

Hit the Enter key and then type: exit to exit the command window.

Again go to Start>Run and type: cleanmgr

Run the Disk Cleanup utility after putting a check next to these: (the terms may be different in your language)

Temporary Files
Temporary Internet Files
Recycle Bin

If you have no intention of buying Spysweeper, you can uninstall it from Control Panel Add/Remove Programs. It is a 15 day trial period and unless you pay you can't use it after that.

To make sure you're clean let's run an online scan.

Go here to make an online scan:

http://www.pandasoft.../activescan.htm

- Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
- A new window will open...click the Check Now button
- Enter your Country
- Enter your State/Province
- Enter your e-mail address and click send
- Select either Home User or Company
- Click the big Scan Now button
- If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
- It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
- When download is complete, click on Local Disks to start the scan
- When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location.


Then please reboot and post a final HijackThis log for me to see along with the Panda results.

I tried to scan my computer completly, but it took me 4 hours so I aborted.
The scan told me there were 5 spy wares on my computer...

Maybe in the next night I'm going to start panda again.

It's best if you set the scan overnight and go to bed :tazz:

Also, disable your screensaver so that it doesn't interrupt the scan..(I'm not sure for Panda but I know that on some other scans the screensaver pauses the scan)
