I was having a problem with 69sexsearch constantly popping up on screen, and duplicating itself. I have ran a virus scan, as well as hijackthis.

According to the virus scan, I have 23 infected files.

I don't know how to remedy this problem myself, so below is the log from hijackthis. I'd greatly appreciate your help with this matter. Thanks in advance!!! :tazz:

You will need to post the whole HijackThis log. The log you posted is incomplete.

Run HijackThis again - Click on Do System Scan and Save Logfile

When the log opens in Notepad go to Edit > Select All and then Edit > Copy.

Then using Paste will post the whole log into this thread.

Hi again

Hi DKandSM

You may need to print this out or copy and paste into a Notepad file so you can keep track of the deletions when you are working in Safe Mode and not connected to the internet.

Download Deldomains.inf from here http://www.mvps.org/.../DelDomains.inf and save it so you can find it easily.

Open HijackThis and click on "Open Misc Tools Section" and "Open Process Manager"

Find this process in the list, select it and click on "Kill Process". Read the name very carefully as there may be some names that are similar but that are genuine files.

xpsp2fw.exe
osoa.exe

Then click on Back which will open the HijackThis Scan Screen. Click on Scan. When the scan is complete check all the following items. Then disconnect from the internet and close all open windows including this browser window and click on Fix checked.

Open Windows Explorer and find the deldomains.inf file you downloaded earlier. Right-click and select > Install
This will remove all entries in the "Trusted Zone" and "Ranges" also. You may need to replace any entries that you had in trusted zones already.

Reboot into Safe Mode by continually tapping the F8 key as soon as the computer starts to boot up - almost straight after the beep. When the Windows XP Safe Mode menu comes up - Choose Safe Mode. You don't need any networking. Choose Windows XP as the Operating System if the menu asks.

Open Windows Explorer and go to >Tools>Folder Options>View, select:*Show hidden files and folders
*Display the contents of system folders
Uncheck:*Hide protected operating system files
Set search options
Next go to Search > All files and folders > More advanced options and click.

Be sure the first three boxes are selected:*Search System folders
*Search Hidden Files and folders
*Search SubFolders
Delete all the files and folders noted in bold below. Some may not be there but use the search function in Windows Explorer to make sure.

C:\WINDOWS\ EliteToolBar\EliteToolBar.dll - Delete entire folder
C:\WINDOWS\System32\ ebiyeta.exe - file only
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ xpsp2fw.exe - file only
C:\WINDOWS\System32\ tibs3.exe - file only
C:\windows\system32\ kalvotr32.exe - file only
EGDACCESS_1056.dll - Delete this file - you will need to search for it
C:\Documents and Settings\Bill Kay\Application Data\ osoa.exe - file only
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ wuclient.exe - file only

Navigate to

c:\documents and settings\<your user name>\local settings

Delete the entire contents of your \temp folder and your \temporary internet files folder

You will need to do this for each user if there is are more than one users on the computer

Reboot into normal mode and do a fresh HijackThis log and post it so we can check if there is more to do.

Hi DKandSM

Just a few more things to do.

Open the HijackThis and do a System Scan. When the scan is complete check all the following items. Then disconnect from the internet and close all open windows including this browser window and click on Fix checked.

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.mommaville.com/forums
O2 - BHO: &EliteBar - {28CAEFF3-0F18-4036-B504-51D73BD81ABC} - C:\WINDOWS\EliteToolBar\EliteToolBar.dll
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [kalvsys] C:\windows\system32\kalvotr32.exe

Reboot into Safe Mode by continually tapping the F8 key as soon as the computer starts to boot up. You should still have all the settings from the previous fix.

Delete the following files:

C:\WINDOWS\ EliteToolBar\EliteToolBar.dll - Delete entire folder
C:\windows\system32\kalvotr32.exe delete file only

Reboot into normal mode and do a fresh Hijackthis log and post so we can check if it's now cleaned up.

That looks pretty good :tazz:

Now for some prevention advice to try and stop you getting infected again.

Keep Windows and Internet Explorer fully up to date - use automatic updates if possible. You need to investigate installing SP2 on your Windows installation for greater security.

Give some consideration to using Firefox or Mozilla as your browser. http://www.mozilla.org They are free and more secure than internet explorer. Firefox is easy to use and doesn't take long to get used to. Thunderbird, the sister email program to Firefox, is also easy to use and set up and a whole lot more secure than OE.

Don't click on OK or yes on any advert on a webpage or in spam email. Before downloading any free software - check that it doesn't use spyware as 'marketing' or to keep it free. Google is your friend or ask somewhere like here ;)

Keep your antivirus program up to date and do regular scans
Keep your firewall up to date and read alerts before clicking Yes.

Keep Adaware up to date and do regular scans
Keep Spybot Search and Destroy up to date and do regular scans

These are free and will help to keep most spyware off your PC:

SpywareBlaster will block bad ActiveX and malevolent cookies. http://www.javacools...areblaster.html
SpywareGuard http://www.javacools...sgdownload.html - gives real time monitoring of common spyware changes.

IE-SPYAD puts over 4000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all. The download is quite a long way down the page - but the page is worth reading for more information about spyware.
