Hi there,

I have run all the suggested scans, currently run Spybot, Spywareguard, Adaware, AVG, and still managed to pickup malware... I'm pretty careful too so this is very frustrating.. I don't open attachments, run multiple spyware software and antivirus programs... arrgh... can anyone help?

I keep finding CWSlook2me after every restart running CWS shredder. Also here is my latest TrendMicro scan results, and my Hijack this file... can someone help me remove the bad stuff?

Thanks,

Tony B.

Hi tnjbrown and Welcome to GeekstoGo!

Please disable TeaTimer in Spybot S&D as it may prevent part of this fix:
Open Spybot and click on Mode, check Advanced Mode:
Check yes to next window.
Click on Tools in bottom left hand corner:
Click on Resident. Uncheck Resident "TeaTimer" box.
Close Spybot. Reboot your computer.

Please print these instructions out for use in Safe Mode.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files
  • This will create a VundoFix folder on your desktop.
  • After the files are extracted, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
  • Once in safe mode open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat
  • You will first be presented with a warning.
    It should look like this

    VundoFix V2.15 by Atri
By using VundoFix you agree that you are doing so at your own risk
    Press enter to continue....

  • At this point press enter one time.
  • Next you will see:

Please Type in the filepath as instructed by the forum staff
    and then press enter:

  • At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):
    • C:\WINDOWS\system32\ssqpm.dll
  • Press Enter to continue with the fix.
  • Next you will see:

Please type in the second filepath as instructed by the forum
    staff then press enter:

  • At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):C:\WINDOWS\system32\mpqss.*
This will be the vundo filename spelt backwards. for example if the vundo dll was vundo.dll you would have the user enter odnuv.*
  • Press Enter to continue with the fix.
  • The fix will run then HijackThis will open, if it does not open automatically please open it manually.
  • In HiJackThis, please place a check next to the following items and click FIX CHECKED:O2 - BHO: (no name) - {549B5CA7-4A86-11D7-A4DF-000874180BB3} - (no file)

    O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {FC148228-87E1-4D00-AC06-58DCAA52A4D1} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ssqpm.dll

    O23 - Service: CWShredder Service - Unknown owner - C:\Documents and Settings\Tony\Desktop\cwshredder.exe (file missing)
  • After you have fixed these items, close Hijackthis.
  • Press enter to exit the program then manually reboot your computer.
  • Once your machine reboots please continue with the instructions below.
Download and install CleanUp!

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):
  • Empty Recycle Bins
  • Delete Cookies
  • Delete Prefetch files
  • Cleanup! All Users
Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.

It may ask you to reboot at the end, click NO.

Then, please run this online virus scan: ActiveScan

Copy the results of the ActiveScan and paste them here along with a new HiJackThis log and the vundofix.txt file from the vundofix folder into this topic.

Lets be sure there arent any other leftovers.

Download WinPFind:
http://www.bleepingc...es/winpfind.php

Right Click the Zip Folder and Select "Extract All"

Don't use it yet!

Restart in Safe Mode

From the WinPFind folder-> Doubleclick WinPFind.exe and Click "Start Scan"

It will scan the entire System, so please be patient!

One you see "Scan Complete"-> a log (WinPFind.txt) will be automatically generated in the WinPFind folder!

Post the results of the WinPFind scan in the next reply please.

Here's the Resuts... I did restart TeaTimer and Spyware guard yesterday, just so you know those were back on and active at the time of this scan (in case that matters).

Thanks again!

WARNING: not all files found by this scanner are bad. Consult with a knowledgable person before proceeding.

If you see a message in the titlebar saying "Not responding..." you can ignore it. Windows somethimes displays this message due to the high volume of disk I/O. As long as the hard disk light is flashing, the program is still working properly.

Make sure TeaTimer is disabled.

Copy the text below to a blank notepad page and Save it to the Desktop as rem.reg but dont run it just yet.

Thanks a bunch... everything seems to be working ok now.... I can hibernate and sleep again, and no more popups.

I followed your recommendations and installed the HOSTS file which works great as well. My only minor issues now are my Danz/Maxtor software for my external drive that continues to generate an applicaton button in my taskbar at startup that can't be closed without opening the software, but I believe that's a sofware issue with the Danz software, not a malware issue...

I did another hijackthis log after fixing the entry you suggested and installing the HOSTS file. I see a few more "no file" BHO entries now as well. Can I "fix" those as well now?

Please disable TeaTimer in Spybot S&D as it may prevent part of this fix:
Open Spybot and click on Mode, check Advanced Mode:
Check yes to next window.
Click on Tools in bottom left hand corner:
Click on Resident. Uncheck Resident "TeaTimer" box.
Close Spybot. Reboot your computer.

Have HijackThis fix these

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {549B5CA7-4A86-11D7-A4DF-000874180BB3} - (no file)

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {FC148228-87E1-4D00-AC06-58DCAA52A4D1} - (no file)

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {FDD3B846-8D59-4ffb-8758-209B6AD74ACC} - (no file)

Go to Msconfig-> To get to MSCONFIG, click on Start -> Run -> type in MSCONFIG -> click OK

If you see this entry-> RetroExpress Uncheck the box beside it and click Apply and Close.

Looks good.. the BHO Entries are gone now... and RetroExpress doesn't start upon startup anymore, so everything starts a bit faster now too...

I wasn't aware XP had the MSconfig utility again... I missed that with my Win2k machine.

Thanks a million for your assistance... I appreciate it.

Actually.... I was wrong. Those BHO entries I fixed were gone... then I restarted my computer... and they were still gone.. then I turned tea timer back on, and they re-appeared...

Anything I can do to remove them permanently or should I just not worry about them?

Id Uninstall Spybot all together and then Disable System Restore
http://service1.syma...src=sec_doc_nam

Restart the PC and Scan with HijackThis to be sure the entries are gone.

Please Install these 2 to add to the Security of the PC!

SpywareBlaster:
http://www.javacools...areblaster.html
Update Immediatly!

WinHelp2002 Hosts File
http://www.mvps.org/...2002/hosts2.htm

Go ahead and Reconfigure Msconfig the way you like the PC to Startup!

Go ahead and remove any of the tools downloaded that are of no use anymore!

Post back and let me know how things are?

Hi there,

I unistalled Spybot S&D and re-started. The entries were still there in HijackThis so I checked them and "fixed" them in hijack this.

I re-started again, and they are no longer in the hijackthis logfile.. I've posted it below as well just in case you wanted to look..

I also have SpywareBlaster already installed, and followed the instructions for using a HOSTS file with the last set of instructions... everything seems to be working just fine at this point.

Do you suggest re-installing Spybot?
Do you also suggest I turn system restore back on or leave it off permanently?

Thanks again for all your help... I appreciate it.
