No you didn't screw up.

Let's see if we can trace this. Are you by any change using 3B (downloaded) software?

Please post me an uninstall list:
  • Open HijackThis
  • Click on the configure button on the bottom right
  • Click on the tab "Misc Tools"
  • Click on the Box that says "Uninstall Manager"
  • Click on the button "Save list"
  • Copy and past the List from notepad into your post
