Let's start with a simple solution and see if it works. Download the latest Windows Media player and install it. Even if you have the latest, reinstall it.
Also, what anti-virus programs do you use? What about Anti-spyware programs?

Yep! I can play from my music library now but the dvd player that once existed won't work. It says "Windows media player cannot play the dvd because a compatible dvd decoder is not installed on your computer" Do you know which I should install and is there one for free?
P.S. Thanks for the help. Gosh I feel dumb but ..well, i am pretty dumb when it comes to this machine ..what's it called ..a computer...yeah thats it! So thanks!!!!

I'm glad I could help.
What is your DVD's brand name and model #? I'll see if I can help you with that too.
