I've downloaded every spyware type of program possible to try and get rid of this WinFixer thing but none of them work. Only my AOL Spyware Protection Program is able to detect this piece of malware from WinFixer, it allows me to block it which i do but as soon as i re-styart my computer, it just comes back again. I have a Anti-Virus Program, a Firewall, Spybot S&D, Ad-Aware, SywareGuard, Spyware Blaster, Crap Cleaner, Clean Up!, MRU-Blaster, CWShredder and IE-SPYAD but this WinFixer thing just keeps coming back even after i do a system restore. It doesn't cause my PC any problems at the moment but i know it will do if i just leave it there, i desperately want to get rid of it so i thought i better ask some experts.

Here is my HijackThis log [which looks completely clean]:

nothing showing in your log.

The Temp folders should be cleaned out periodically as installation programs and hijack programs leave a lot of junk there. Download CleanUp! (Alternate Link if the main link does not work) and install it. Please Do not run yet.

Please download ewido security suite it is a trial version of the program.
  • Install ewido security suite
  • When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
  • Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop double-click it.
  • The program will now go to the main screen
You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
  • On the left hand side of the main screen click update
  • Then click on Start Update
The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update ewido.
ewido manual updates

Reboot into safe mode.

Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Run CleanUp! and click on CleanUp! button. When it asks you if you want to logoff, click on Yes.

Open up and run Ewido:
  • Click on scanner
  • Click Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • During the scan when it ask if you want to clean the first file, put a check in the lower left corner of the box that says "Perform action on all infections" then choose clean and click OK
  • When the scan is finished, look at the bottom of the screen and click the Save report button.
  • Save the report to your desktop
Close Ewido

Reboot into normal mode and please run this online virus scan: ActiveScan - Save the results from the scan!

Please post the Active scan log, Ewido Log and a fresh HiJackThis log. Let me know how your computer is running.

I wasn't able to use the ActiveScan product because my Avast anti-virus program detected it as malware/trojan, and they advised me not to install the Active X thing that the product needs to work.

Oh and since using CleanUp, i have lost my windows browser. For some reason i can only use the old classic style now and it's really annoying, the Windows XP style isn't an option no more so i'm stuck with the Classic style. How do i get it back?

Oh and my computer seems to be running smoothly right now.

One last thing. My AOL Spyware Protection Program just popped up and said that i have a infection called Trojan.Win32.Dialer.hc. Any ideas what that is?

We can fix that windows classic problem, but lets see if there is anything else on your computer.

Download WinPFind and extract it to your C:\ folder. This will create a folder called WinPFind in the C:\ folder.
don't do anything with it yet.

boot into safe mode

Inside c:\WinPFind is a file called WinPFind.exe. Double-click on this file to launch the program. Once it is launched, click on the Start Scan button and wait for it to finish. This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works as it can take a while, upwards to 30 minutes or more.

reboot

Please post the winpfind log

Please RIGHT-CLICK HERE to download Silent Runner's.
  • Save it to the desktop.
  • Run Silent Runner's by doubleclicking the "Silent Runners" icon on your desktop.
  • You will receive a prompt:
    • Do you want to skip supplementary searches?
      click NO
  • You will see a text file appear on the desktop - it's not done, let it run (it won't appear to be doing anything!)
  • Once you receive the prompt All Done!, open the text file on the desktop, copy that entire log, and paste it here.
*NOTE* If you receive any warning message about scripts, please choose to allow the script to run.

WinPFind log:

WARNING: not all files found by this scanner are bad. Consult with a knowledgable person before proceeding.

If you see a message in the titlebar saying "Not responding..." you can ignore it. Windows somethimes displays this message due to the high volume of disk I/O. As long as the hard disk light is flashing, the program is still working properly.

Jotti File Submission:
  • Please go to Jotti's malware scan
  • Copy and paste the following file path into the "File to upload & scan"box on the top of the page:
    • C:\WINDOWS\choice.exe
  • Click on the submit button
  • Please post the results in your next reply.

  • Open HiJackThis
  • Click on the configure button on the bottom right
  • Click on the tab "Misc Tools"
  • Click on "Delete File on Reboot"
  • Navigate to this file - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\aswBoot.exe
  • Double click on that file.
  • HJT asks you if you want to reboot, now. Click "Yes".

after reboot

download a copy of luna.msstyles from the attached file

Unzip it and MOVE the luna.msstyles which is present in that folder you unzipped to next folder: C:\WINDOWS\Resources\Themes\Luna
Don't move it to anywhere else than that folder!

When moved it there, rightclick on your desktop > properties ... and look if Windows XPstyle is now present again. Choose apply and OK.

If not, reboot first, and try again to select Windows XPstyle

Scanner Results:

Service load: 0% 100%

File: choice.exe
Status: MIGHT BE INFECTED/MALWARE (Sandbox emulation took a long time and/or runtime packers were found, this is suspicious. Normally programs aren't packed and don't force the sandbox into lengthy emulation. Do realize no scanner issued any warning, the file can very well be harmless. Caution is advised, however.)
