the internet, wininet.dll and msn messenger

well, I'm away from my comp for two weeks. I come back to find that whenever I log in loads of popups come up saying that it cant open anything to do with the internet because it cant find a good copy of the file 'wininet.dll'

so I figure I'll go find a good copy. after a quick google search, i got one and put it in the windows/system folder where it told me to put it.

after this everything worked fine, except that msn messenger wont log in. it opens and all my info is there, but when i click log in, nothing happens

I have tried re-installing it, but to no avail

please help me if you can, thanks
