please check the faq for aditional questions/answers regarding the univers, gameplay, and pc specs: http://www.eve-onlin.../faq/faq_01.asp
This game was released in 2003 and as time has gone on new people join the eve universe every day. If you buy the retail copy you get the first month included before you have to pay the monthly subscription. Alternatively someone who is currenlty playing the game can give you a "buddy" subsciption wich is a 2 week trial.
you can bounty hunt, mine, be a corp mogul, or just be a rouge pilot taking jobs whereever they may lead. there are some great things about the game client that I must harp on. First being is the low utilization of system resources. unlike other games which monopolize your system you can either play this in window mode or alt-tab between applications. So if you want to surf the eve forums or IM with your buddies you can continue to do so. The other is that because its a persistant universe you can dock your spaceship in port and setup a training task to happen while your away. For example for some of the advanced training (lvl 3 and up) it may take 3 days or more to complete the task (real time).

and yes that is how the eve universe actually looks like.
Unlike many other MMO's eve does many things uniquely. Such that the game play and well thought out and very detailed. The game starts off with a turtorial on how the universe works. Highly recomended that you complete the turtorial.
I have had the game for almost 2 weeks. I have never been one to like MMO's but I do like this one very much. The more you play it the more you appreciate the depth the game has to it.
Only draw back is that he eve forums lack a search function, but an eve player wrote his own search tool at http://eve-search.com/
