When I switch on Internet explorer automatically opens in 3 windows. If I close them down they just open up again.
I have AVG anti-virus with daily updates, have also run an online virus check, microsoft antispyware, ad-aware and trojanhunter, all to no avail.

This does not affect my daily work but is just annoying.

Anybody got any ideas?????

Cheers! :tazz:

Do the three windows open up a website or are the blank or try to open up something?

What is your home page?

Does your computer lag when you click the icon? What I would do is change to FireFox. It might be your settings or you clicked the icon to many times.

I've set the home page to about:blank and they still open.

I use netscape 8 as my default browser but this still happens with explorer.

How can I delete explorer?? I thought it was part of windows????

Just curious, but why would you set the default homepage to about:blank? As for removing Internet Explorer it's not easy, if it's even possible. I've had no need to remove it. All you have to do is make sure the browser you use is set as the default browser and IE will never be opened for anything. As for Netscape 8, it's junk in regards to browsers. I would do what was suggested and get Firefox.

Thanks for the replies so far!!!!!

I set the home page to about:blank to see if this would stop ie opening.

ie opens on its own, I don't click anything.

Netscape is set as my default browser, but ie still opens on its own in 3 simultaneous windows.

Why is netscape junk???

I have windows 2000 professional.

Have you posted a HJT log in the Malware Forum and performed all the steps shown in the START HERE? if not, then I suggest you do so. I also suggest you do what I said in my last post and that is do a repair of Internet Explorer.

As for my comment about Netscape being junk, it's because daily at work I see all kinds of problems related to Netscape in general. Whether it's a problem of not actually applying itself as the default browser when in fact the setting has been changed so that it is, to bookmarks disappearing to Netscape not being able to properly read and display webpages accurately. Hence why I said you should get Firefox as many other members have suggested in this thread. Firefox is not only more stable but it is more secure then any other browser out there. And besides, it has the coolest extensions that you can download. :tazz:

I think it's best if you post that log in the Malware Forum and let a malware expert take a look at it.

If you are still having problems after being given a clean bill of health from the malware expert, then please return to THIS thread and we will pursue other options to help you solve your current problem.
