[NEEDHELPWITHPC]

Hi everyone. My computer is acting crazy. I go to one site to download one file, and all of a sudden my PC goes crazy with spyware. I have been having Hijacked browser to http://www.syserror.com (I solved this when running Ewido), popups for "Spyware Removal" have been appearing on my screen, my taskbar has little bubbles that pop up saying "System Alert: Popups" and "Your computer is infected" (Those redirect me to spyware removal tool websites expecially Spy axe and Spy trooper), and shortcuts have been added to my desktop without my approval.

I have run Ewido, Norton Antivirus 2005, SpyBot, Spy Doctor, AVG Free, Ad-aware SE Personal, but nothing has helped. Ewido has gotten rid of the hijacked browser to www.syserror.com, but thats about it. The virus alert bubble is still on my taskbar, and it won't go away. Whenever you try clicking it, it sends you to spy axe or spytrooper. I have no clue what to do . Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Please download noahdfear's smitRem.exe©. Save the file to your desktop. Double click on the file to extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.

Please download the trial version of ewido security suite.Install ewido security suite
When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".

Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop double-click it.
The program will prompt you to update click the OK button

The program will now go to the main screen
You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.On the left hand side of the main screen click update
Click on Start
The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
Once the updates are installed, close Ewido for now.

If you have not already installed Ad-Aware SE 1.06, please download and install AdAware SE 1.06.
Check Here on how setup and use it - please make sure you update it first.

Download the Killbox.
Unzip it to the desktop

Double-click on Killbox.exe to run it. Place the following lines (complete paths) in bold in the "Full Path of File to Delete" box in Killbox, and click the red button with the white X on it after each

C:\WINDOWS\System32\muqhumw.exe

For these file, put a mark next to "Delete on Reboot". Copy and paste each file into the file name box, then click the red button with the X after each. It will ask you if you want to reboot each time you click it, answer NO until after you've pasted the last file name, at which time you should answer Yes.

If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

Open HijackThis
Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.
The tool will create a log named smitfiles.txt in the root of your drive, eg; Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed.
Post me the contents of the smitfiles.txt log as you post back.

Open Ad-aware and do a full scan. Remove all it finds.

Now open Ewido Security Suite:* Click on scanner
* Click Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
* During the scan it will prompt you to clean files, click OK
* When the scan is finished, look at the bottom of the screen and click the Save report button.
* Save the report to your desktop
Reboot your computer.

Next go to Control Panel click Display > Desktop > Customize Desktop > Web > Uncheck "Security Info" if present.

Reboot back into Windows

• Open HijackThis
• Click on the configure button on the bottom right
• Click on the tab "Misc Tools"
• Click on the Box that says "Uninstall Manager"
• Click on the button "Save list"
• Copy and past the List from notepad into your post

Post a new HijackThis Log, the contents of smitfiles.txt, the uninstall list and the Ewido Log by using Add Reply.

I notice that you are using more than one antivirus program. This is very dangerous, as multiple AVs can interfere with one another and actually allow MORE viruses to get through.
I strongly suggest you either:(1) configure only one antivirus program to enable automatic realtime scanning, and leave the rest disabled most of the time, or
(2) go to Start -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs and uninstall all but one antivirus program.

Remove AdWare SpyWare SE and TopFiveSearch.com Search Assistant
Move to Start > Settings > Control Panel
Double click Add/Remove Programs.
Within Add/Remove programs click the "Install/Uninstall" tab or click the "Change or Remove Programs" button.
Within this section you will see a listing of programs that are currently installed that support this feature. If the program I’m advising you to uninstall is listed within this list, highlight it and click the Add/Remove or uninstall option or button.

Download the Killbox version 2.0.0.473 .
Unzip it to the desktop

Double-click Killbox.exe to run it.

Select "Delete on Reboot".
Place the following line (complete path) in bold in the "Full Path of File to Delete" box in Killbox:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchosts.dll
Put a mark next to "Delete on Reboot"
Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt.
If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

Use Windows Explorer to remove this folder:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\1024\.

Reboot the computer. The bubble should be gone now.

Using Windows Explorer, go to your root drive: C:\ and create a new folder called 'Hijack' and within that folder, create a new folder called 'Backups'.

Open registrar light, copy the following into the window and click go.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Windows\

The windows folder in the left pane should now be highlighted, if its not click on it to highlight.

Now we need to use registrar lite to export this key. Click the export button (the little disk). We need to save this two times to the backup folder that you just created.

Click the export button and save the file as.
Winkey.reg (Save as type: regedit4 .reg type)

Then click the export button again and save as.
Winkey.hiv (Save as type: Scroll to select-regetd32/WinAPI *hiv *dat files)

Now check your backup folder to make sure that both files have been saved.


Now back in registrar lite. (you should still be in the same location with the windows folder highlighted).

Right click on the windows folder in the left pane and rename it to Not windows

Double click on Appinit_Dlls in the right pane and erase the data in the 'Value' box at the bottom of the new pane. (the data will be the file name) Then hit apply and ok.

Now right click on the windows folder in the left pane again. Change the name back to windows.

Now close registrar lite and reboot your computer.

After you have rebooted open Killbox.

In KillBox select the "Replace on Reboot" option.

Copy and Paste this entry to the "Full Path of File to Delete" box:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\mad.dll

When you select "Replace on Reboot", the "Use Dummy" option will highlight.
Click the "Use Dummy" option (Click "Use Dummy" for the following files also).

Click the red circle with the white X.
When the confirmation message appears, you will need to click Yes.

A second message will ask to Reboot now? You will need to click Yes.

Next Open the backup folder and double click on winkey.reg. Answer yes when asked if you want to merge.

Then open reg lite in the top left click file then import, navagate to the backup folder and import Winkey.hiv.

Copy and paste the following into the address bar of reglite.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Windows\\AppInit_DLLs

Delete the entry in the AppInit_DLLs Value key which will look like: C:\Windows\System32\mad.dll and then close reg lite.

Then fix this in HijackThis O20 - AppInit_DLLs: mad.dll

Then reboot.

Post back with a fresh HijackThis log to check please.

I did what you wanted in the first post, and yes the bubble is gone!!!!! The only problem I am having is when I download Registrar Lite from the program you gave me, when I try to export the windows folder, a messgage popups saying "Exporting registry data is only available in the PRO version of Registrar Registry Manager."I tryed downloading the Pro edition but you have to pay. I don't know what to do next!!

Let's do it without the backup then. Read the text carefully. Print the page so you can follow it step by step.


Run Reglite, and paste the BOLD text below into Reglite's address bar:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows

Double-click "Appinit_Dlls" value in right pane. And look in the 'Value' box at the bottom of the new pane.

The value should contain: C:\Windows\System32\mad.dll or just plain mad.dll

IF "mad.dll' is NOT in the 'Value' box, STOP here, and let me know.

Close that "new pane".

Once you get past here, you MUST finish or you'll screw up the Registry.

Right-click on the Windows key in the left pane and rename it to Windows2. Then double-click "Appinit_Dlls" value in right pane once more.

Then erase the data in the 'Value' box at the bottom of the new pane.

Click 'Apply' and 'OK' to set.

Right-click on the Windows2 key in the left pane and rename it back to Windows.

Close Reglite.

CLOSE ALL WINDOWS (even this one) AND PROGRAMS!!!!

Run Hijack This!
Click "Do a systen scan only".
Then "check" the box to the left of these item(s):

O20 - AppInit_DLLs: mad.dll

Then click "Fix checked".

Reboot in "safe" mode.

Double-click Killbox.exe to run it.

Select "Delete on Reboot".
Place the following line (complete path) in bold in the "Full Path of File to Delete" box in Killbox:

c:\windows\system32\mad.dll
Put a mark next to "Delete on Reboot"
Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.
If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.


Reboot in normal mode.

Let's party, you did great It's gone now.

Still, I notice that you are still using more than one antivirus program. This is very dangerous, as multiple AVs can interfere with one another and actually allow MORE viruses to get through.
I strongly suggest you either:(1) configure only one antivirus program to enable automatic realtime scanning, and leave the rest disabled most of the time, or
(2) go to Start -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs and uninstall all but one antivirus program.

Yeah, the computer is running great. It's a little bit slower then before, but I think it's because of all the programs we downloaded. Otherwise everythings great!!!
