When shutting down (or rebooting) I get an error message that a DLL associated with DFSSOCKX.EXE failed to initialize because the system is shutting down.

Searching on the net fails to find any mention or record of DFSSOCKX - nothing on DLL forums, nothing at Microsoft, Security sites, etc.

It is in the C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch directory as DFSSOCKX.EXE-272C35D9.pf (15KB)

No info on what it is related to. No DLL that I can find for it.

Anyone ever hear of this thing? Is it malware? Some junk from some software package or previous infection?

Welcome to Geeks to Go! :tazz:

I see that the .exe file has seemingly random characters...you may want to post a HijackThis log in the Malware Removal Forum. The links are in my signature.

Done! Thanks for the suggestion.

I don't see anything alarming in the log but then I am no expert.
