Trojan.Vundo found by Nortons [CLOSED]

:) A few weeks ago the Winfixer pop-ups began. I was able to do a system restore and that appeared to resolve the problem until this weekend. Norton shows that it has found Trojan.Vundo but it can not resolve the issue. (I can't even make the window closed except by closing all of Norton) I tried Norton's fix and some times it finds the Vundo and sometimes it doesn't. Even at that, it does not resolve the issue. I have gone through all the various scans recommended on your site. The following is the HiJack Log:

:tazz: Can you offer some advice on what to do next? My high school daughter is jumping at the bits to get back on the computer. :) Also, any ideas on where this most likely came from. I saw on another site where they were looking at the correlation between Java instant updates and this trojan.

Hello, cmillie.

Please print these instructions out or save them in notepad for use in Safe Mode.

Please DELETE your current HJT program from its present location.

Download and run the following HijackThis autoinstall program from Here . Please choose the default location of C:\Program Files\ as the destination. HJT needs to be in its own folder so that the program itself isn't deleted by accident

First off, one of the programs you have installed - AdwareAlert uses false positives to goad the user to purchase it, and there is very little info about the company. More info about it Here. I will mark the entries that relate to it red, I highly recommend removing it.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files
  • This will create a VundoFix folder on your desktop.
  • After the files are extracted, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
  • Once in safe mode please go to add/remove and uninstall the following programs:
    (Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs)

    MyWebSearch
    AdwareAlert

  • Then delete the following files/folders:

    C:\Program Files\MyWebSearch
    C:\Program Files\AdwareAlert
    You will need to search for this one, ALCXMNTR.EXE
    (Start > Search > For Files or Folders)

  • Open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat
  • You will first be presented with a warning.
    It should look like this

    VundoFix V2.15 by Atri
    By using VundoFix you agree that you are doing so at your own risk
    Press enter to continue....

  • At this point press enter one time.
  • Next you will see:

    Please Type in the filepath as instructed by the forum staff
    and then press enter:

  • At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):
    • C:\WINDOWS\system32\pmnnm.dll
  • Press Enter to continue with the fix.
  • Next you will see:

    Please type in the second filepath as instructed by the forum
    staff then press enter:

  • At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):C:\WINDOWS\system32\mnnmp.*
  • Press Enter to continue with the fix.
  • The fix will run then HijackThis will open, if it does not open automatically please open it manually.
  • In HiJackThis, please place a check next to the following items and click FIX CHECKED:O2 - BHO: PicShow Class - {4487598C-2EC7-43A2-870E-6D8D720FDD9F} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\pkshsyjn.dll (file missing)

  • After you have fixed these items, close Hijackthis.
  • Press enter to exit the program then manually reboot your computer.
  • Once your machine reboots please continue with the instructions below.
Download and install CleanUp!

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):
  • Empty Recycle Bins
  • Delete Cookies
  • Delete Prefetch files
  • Cleanup! All Users
Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.

It may ask you to reboot at the end, click NO.

Then, please run this online virus scan: ActiveScan

Copy the results of the ActiveScan and paste them here along with a new HiJackThis log and the vundofix.txt file from the vundofix folder into this topic.
