Note: This tool does not remove the WinFixer application. WinFixer alone does not cause popups or disrupt the system. Remove the Winlogon Notify registry key
Automatically restart the computer (via STOP error)
Note: This is a BLUE SCREEN "Fatal Error" Message. It is normal and expected. The tool ends an important Windows Process that was protecting the file and NT Security STOPS the system as soon as it detects this is happening.

Removed the instruction to Stop McShield
Cleaned up some logging messages.
Added checking for BHO with no default name. These entries will be checked to see if they are referenced to be start up with WinLogon. If it is, it will be tagged as Virtumundo and removed.

VirusScan will now be able to remove the files normally when you run an on-demand scan.

I followed the instructions, downloaded from the link onto my desktop. I ran it, got a blue screen that said physical memory was being erased. What the crap?!?!? I turned off the computer, and when it came back up it said it was recovering from a crash. What did you have me download? Why would it crash my computer. I am currently running a virus scan and will run MS Anti-Spyware as well.

Please download and run the following program(s):

AD-AWARE

Go here and download Ad-Aware SE.

Install the program and launch it.

First, in the main window look in the bottom right corner and click on Check for updates now then click Connect and download the latest reference files.

From the main window, click Start then under Select a scan Mode tick Perform full system scan.

Next, deselect Search for negligible risk entries.

Now to perform a scan, click the Next button.

When the scan is finished, mark everything for removal and get rid of it. To do so, right-click in the window and choose select all from the drop down menu and then click Next)



SPYBOT SEARCH & DESTROY

Go here and download Spybot Search & Destroy.

Install the program and launch it.

Before scanning press Online and Search for Updates .

Put a check mark at and install all updates.

Click Check for Problems and when the scan is finished let Spybot fix/remove all it finds marked in RED.

Restart your computer.


Rescan with HijackThis, close all browser windows except HijackThis, put a check mark beside these entries and click fix checked.

It was running a little slow yesterday, but it is running perfectly today. Do I need to keep Ad-aware & Spybot Killer installed. I have Microsoft Anti-Spyware running active with def's getting updated daily. I don't like to keep extraneous prog's if they are not needed. Thanks for your help!

I would keep Ad-Aware and SpyBot Search & Destroy. You should update and run them regularly. Once you've done the following, you can remove Killbox.


This infection also installs some files written in reverse to the one that shows in the log that the tool doesn't remove so let's take care of those:


Click Here and download Killbox and save it to your desktop but don’t run it yet.

Now boot to safe mode.

Double-click on Killbox.exe to run it. Now put a tick by Standard File Kill. In the "Full Path of File to Delete" box, copy and paste each of the following lines one at a time then click on the button that has the red circle with the X in the middle after you enter each file. It will ask for confirmation to delete the file. Click Yes. Continue with that same procedure until you have copied and pasted all of these in the "Paste Full Path of File to Delete" box.

Note: It is possible that Killbox will tell you that one or more files do not exist. If that happens, just continue on with all the files. Be sure you don't miss any.

Exit the Killbox.


Now you should turn system restore off to flush out all previous system restore points, then turn it back on and create a new restore point:

To turn off system restore, on the Desktop, right click on My Computer and click on Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply and then click OK.

Restart your computer, turn System Restore back on and create a restore point.

To create a new restore point, click on Start – All Programs – Accessories – System Tools and then select System Restore.

In the System Restore wizard, select Create a restore point and click the Next button.

Type a name for your new restore point then click on Create.


I also recommend downloading SPYWAREBLASTER & SPYWAREGUARD for added protection.


Delete your temporary files:

In safe mode navigate to the C:\Windows\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit - Select All then Edit - Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Go to Start - Run and type %temp% in the Run box. The Temp folder will open. Click Edit - Select All then Edit - Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Finally go to Control Panel - Internet Options. On the General tab under "Temporary Internet Files" Click "Delete Files". Put a check by "Delete Offline Content" and click OK. Click on the Programs tab then click the "Reset Web Settings" button. Click Apply then OK.

Empty the recycle bin.


Check this out for info on how to tighten your security settings and some good free tools to help prevent this from happening again.

You should trim down your start-ups as there are too many running. You can research them at these sites and if they aren’t required at start-up then you can uncheck them in msconfig via Start - Run - type msconfig and then click on the start-up tab.
