After reading all the suggested steps and doing all what are listed above, I'm still having this "limited or no connectivity" issue.

First of all, I have 4 computers connected into 1 router but I'm only having problem with one of the PC connected in that router. Just this morning, I accidentally hit that PC's plug causing it to power-off. But before it happened, I was browsing and I'm having no trouble of it. After I plugged it in and turned it on, there the "limited or no connectivity" popped-up.

I've done the SP2 patch and winsock fix but I'm still having the same trouble.

What should I do? :)

Hello gang!

This has been bothering me for a while and through my searches I have not been able to get a working answer.

My home PC is connected directly to my modem through an ethernet cable. I am working on a relative's computer that was connected via a Linksys router. So, when I try to connect my ethernet cable to the other computer, I get a "limited or no connectivity". I am not well versed in networking, and a couple of searches have said to power cycle the modem, and connect to the PC that was running through the router. The power cycle will reset the I.P. address, but it sounds like that may mess up my connection once I reconnect to the modem.

Can someone shed some light on this for me?

Thanks again for all your help everyone!

Hi guys,

Problem coming all the way from Holland here. Saw you guys are doing great work, so I thought you should be able to help me with my predicament.

It is also a 'Limited or no Connectivity' issue, on a network that has 6 other people on it, whose internet just works fine. My Xbox Live works as well. Difference between my systems and the others, is that mine is badass and runs on XP 64 (SP2). I'm working on a housemate's compu here, so no mallware or security problems here, I should think.

So everybody in the house here is linked to a simple router, which is linked to another router, which is linked to a brandless modem which we got from the provider (called Alice, which could be Dutch, I'm not sure). We're talking ADSL here, btw. But since my PC is the only one with a connection problem, and my old PC (running normal XP) is working fine with the same wire and connection, I'm guessing it's a XP 64 thing.

I did all the usual stuff, like disconnecting the routers, unplugging the power to the modem, the networkcard status seems to be fine, etc, and here are the IPCONFIG results:

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection 2:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix:
Autoconfiguration IP Adress: 169.254.72.86
Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0
Default Gateway:169.254.72.86

Ethernet adapter Loca Area Connection:
Media State: Media disconnected

Don't make much sense to me, but I'm just following the steps you guys told Kristi to take.

Anyway, I don't know anything else to tell you guys, so; can you help me out?

I'm not a techie, so I read the above exchanges and I, too, need someone to hold my hand thru this frustrating process.
First of all, I have Windows XP(32-bit processor) and have my internet connection here in Thailand thru ADSL. No problem.
Since I live in a condo building, we have Wi-fi, which my girl friend uses free, thanks to a router I purchased.
Since she left for a month, I disconnected the LAN cable and when she returned, we couldn't get back to Wi-fi.
Apparently, the Wi-fi detected by my PC is fine, no problem. But when I reconnect the cables correctly, I can't get my ADSL connection to work. The signal is coming thru fine, but I can't access any Internet sites, unless I disconnect from the router and just use ADSL.
The3 router is D-Link Model DIR-300
The modem: HUAWEI Smartax MT880 Router 1E
My Internet Connection: Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fest Ethernet NIC
Adapter: Atheros AR500 5G Wireless Network Adapter

I will try to provide any additional information you need.
Thanks for your help.

Hi guys i hope you guys are doing well.
I´ve got a problem and i read some of your advice and i find it helpful.
My problem is concerning to to my acer travelmate notebook.
i cant connect internet via LAN port. When i connect the cable in it says nothing like "local area is now connected".But i can browse through the USB ports if i´m using a ethernet mobile adapter. I´ve tried several times but i never succeed. What can i do to make it work?
Ps: Sorry if i´m not so specific, my english might not be very good, i hope i can make you guys understand.

I realize this thread is old, but people still have this issue, and after 6 hours of trying many things, I finally came upon a solution, which instantly worked for my fathers computer... go to cmd prompt (start, run, cmd enter), type in the following: netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt then press enter, then exit out of command prompt, reboot computer, and hopefully you have internet again.

Hope this helps any future surfers with the issue of limited or no connectivity.
