Okay...that was the problem. Sorry... I didn't know how to use it :tazz: Here are the results:

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection :

Connection - specific DNS suffix

I.P. Address 0.0.0.0

Subnet Mask 0.0.0.0

Default Gateway

PPP adapter SBC Yahoo! DSL Connection:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix

I.P. Address 68.89.238.159

Subnet Mask 255.255.255.255

Default Gateway 68.89.238.159

That's it!

Thanks, Kristi

After ipconfig/release:

IP address for adapter Local Area Connection has already been released.

When I type ipconfig/renew and hit enter, nothing happens...I can't even type exit.

Thanks and goodnight!

Both of your ethernet cards are not acting correctly so there is either something wrong with them, they are configured incorrectly, or they have bad drivers.

Do you still have the CD that came with your DLink ethernet card?

Would that be the first SBC DSL CD? The Dlink was in that box.

Lets try upgrading the drivers instead of using the CD. Here is the FTP Link for the DLink DFE530TX. Please download these files:

dfe530TX_driver_10152001.exe
dfe530TX_driver_101601.exe

From this Location:

ftp://ftp.dlink.com/NIC/dfe530tx/Driver/

Before installing either of the two files please go to this location:

ftp://ftp.dlink.com/NIC/dfe530tx/QIG/

and download these intructions and read them carefully before RE-installing:

DFE-530TX.txt

The Manual for the Card

dfe530tx_manual_020905.pdf or .zip whichever you prefer

can also be found here, if needed for more install instructions:

ftp://ftp.dlink.com/NIC/dfe530tx/Manual/

After reinstalling the drivers for the card, or reinstalling the card itself perform tyhe following steps to try and renew and release the IP again.

Start
Run
CMD and hit the "OK" button
Type in... ipconfig /release ...and hit enter
Type in... ipconfig /renew ...and hit enter

copy the results back here

I tried reinstalling the driver and upgrading. I still have the same problem. After trying ipconfig/renew it says an error occurred while renewing interface local area connection: Unable to contact your DHCP server. Request has timed out.

One other thing I noticed while in the device manager, there was a yellow sign over PCI simple communications controller. It says the drivers are not installed when I look at the properties. I don't know if this has anything to do with this or not.

Let me know what is next!

Thank you,

Kristi

you did not install the drivers correctly for the device. go back to the yellow sign and right click on it and select uninstall. restart your computer then go through the loading driver process again. This time when it askes for the file location select the cd drive then insert the dsl disks one by one until it finds the right drivers. If it dsoes not find them then post back.

Hi Kristi

Can you try this please :
Go to Start->Run and type CMD <enter> This will open the DOS screen.
At the dos prompt, type : ipconfig /all <enter>

You should now get the info for both NIC cards without it vanishing straight away. Let us know what it says.

Samm,

As far as I can tell the The PPP Adapter is working (has good 70.xxx IP), but the Dlink is not because the drivers aren't loaded correctly (169.xx IP). I have already posted the link for kristi to download and update with the newest drivers and that didn't work either. She has to be either loading the drivers incorrectly, not using the Windows OS when it asks for it, or the dang card is just bad. I appreciate your help. :tazz:

I have even attempted locating the card from here at my Pc and I cant see it. I can see the PPP though if that helps any.

PSS.. Kristi, you may want to do the IPCONFIG /ALL with just the Ethernet attahced to the DLink and not the PPP adapter /VIA
