I'm trying to to do a clean install of XP, but I'm not able to boot from the OS cd. I've changed the settings in my BIOS to boot from IDE CD-ROM Device, but I'm not prompted with the "Press any key to boot from cd" message. I get an error message saying, "Strike F1 to retry or press F2 to enter setup".

The cd is inserted in the right tray and I have changed the Boot Sequence correctly. So, I'm not sure what the problem is.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Howdy and welcome to G2G:

Is this an original Windows cd or a copy you or someone made for you (setup and install are totally different) ??

It's the original Windows XP cd that came with the computer when it was purchased.

what is the rest of the message saying to strike f1 to retry or f2 to enter setup...in other words...what is it wanting you to retry?

The two... the dvd and cd-r. I think that the DVD is the primary.

That is the message that I got after I changed the boot sequence and saved the settings. Instead of giving me the "press any key to boot from cd" message, that is the message I was given.

Is there an operating system already installed on this system??

Did you have the case open for any reason just prior to doing this re-install (like installing one of the cd drives) ??
