How do I keep messenger from starting when I open outlook?

Hi pjw!

Double-click on the Messenger icon in the systray (by the clock). Once it's open, click on TOOLS-->PREFERENCES. Uncheck the two boxes for letting messenger load when windows starts and for allow it to run in the background. Click APPLY and OK. The messenger icon will still appear when you open outlook, but it won't run and it will stay minimized in the systray.
