Although they have "odd" names, those files are all legitimate.

So, I want to try this..

Download Mozilla FireFox browser:
http://www.mozilla.com/
install it, use it for a while and see if you have issues with this browser.

My problems aren't just with the browser.

After my computer is on for an extended period of time, everything stops responding. including Verizon, AIM, Internet explorer, wavepad... And when I try and save anything (even like ms paint files) my whole computer stops responding unless the computer hasn't been on longer than 20 minutes.

I used to have firefox, but ewido kept detecting virus files in firefox's folders so I uninstalled it. Towards the end of having it, it never even worked. when I started it, the screen would stay white and no buttons or menus would work. but it wasn't showing any signs of not responding.

Couple of other things I want to look at it...

Please RIGHT-CLICK HERE and Save As (in IE it's "Save Target As", in FF it's "Save Link As") to download Silent Runners.
  • Save it to the desktop.
  • Run Silent Runner's by doubleclicking the "Silent Runners" icon on your desktop.
  • You will receive a prompt:
    • Do you want to skip supplementary searches?
      click NO
  • If you receive an error just click OK and double-click it to run it again - sometimes it won't run as it's supposed to the first time but will in subsequent runs.
  • You will see a text file appear on the desktop - it's not done, let it run (it won't appear to be doing anything!)
  • Once you receive the prompt All Done!, open the text file on the desktop, copy that entire log, and paste it here.
*NOTE* If you receive any warning message about scripts, please choose to allow the script to run.

Please download Rootkit Revealer (link is at the very bottom of the page)
  • Unzip it to your desktop.
  • Open the rootkitrevealer folder and double-click rootkitrevealer.exe
  • Click the Scan button (bottom right)
  • It may take a while to scan (don't do anything while it's running)
  • When it's done, go up to File > Save. Choose to save it to your desktop.
  • Open rootkitrevealer.txt on your desktop and copy the entire contents and paste them here

hello niccolai

I don't know what is causing your problems, but it's not a malware issue so there is nothing more I can do here. The only thing I can suggest is posting a new topic in the XP forum.
