Hi everyone,

I've been having problems with those stupid Winfixer popups for about a month now, and ignored the problem up until now since I was really busy and it didn't seem to be doing any harm (except annoy the crap outta me). However, upon updating my Norton Antivirus definitions three days ago, Norton detected the Trojan.Vundo but couldn't repair it. Since then, my computer's been running *extremely* slowly (CPU usage fluctuates from 2-100%), and I don't know if it's because of Winfixer or the trojan or if they're the same thing. The Norton virus detection message won't go away either.. it appears right after startup and stays there even after I press "OK" a million times. I tried using the Symantec Trojan Removal Tool, but it couldn't detect anything. Anyway, I've ran all the programs suggested (Cleanup, Ad-Aware, Spybot, PandaScan, TrendMicro, CWShredder, TrojanHunter) and the results were also all clean. So now here I am, suffering along with my laptop.. help would be greatly appreciated :tazz:

Anyway, here's my HijackThis log:

Hi mai and Welcome to GeekstoGo!

Please print these instructions out for use in Safe Mode.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files
  • This will create a VundoFix folder on your desktop.
  • After the files are extracted, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
  • Once in safe mode open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat
  • You will first be presented with a warning.
    It should look like this

    VundoFix V2.15 by Atri
By using VundoFix you agree that you are doing so at your own risk
    Press enter to continue....

  • At this point press enter one time.
  • Next you will see:

Please Type in the filepath as instructed by the forum staff
    and then press enter:

  • At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):

  • Press Enter to continue with the fix.
  • Next you will see:

Please type in the second filepath as instructed by the forum
    staff then press enter:

  • At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):C:\WINDOWS\system32\cfhjl.*
This will be the vundo filename spelt backwards. For example, if the vundo dll was vundo.dll you would enter odnuv.*
  • Press Enter to continue with the fix.
  • The fix will run then HijackThis will open, if it does not open automatically please open it manually.
  • In HiJackThis, please place a check next to the following items and click FIX CHECKED:O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {FC148228-87E1-4D00-AC06-58DCAA52A4D1} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ljhfc.dll

Thank you so much for your help! I have nearly completed all the steps. I've yet to delete the C:\WINDOWS\arafup.exe file. The reason for this is that I couldn't find under my C:\WINDOWS folder - I had to use the Windows Search function to locate it intead. It turns out that it's in this file: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Spybot - Search & Destroy\Recovery\nCase1.zip. Should I just delete the whole zip file?

Otherwise, my computer seems to be functioning at normal speeds again, and Norton isn't automatically detecting any more viruses. It appears like we're almost done here :tazz:

Doing just fine.

You can leave that file be,its in Spybots Folder and wont hurt a thing.

Once Panda is done, lets be extra sure nothing is left behind.

Download WinPFind:
http://www.bleepingc...es/winpfind.php

Right Click the Zip Folder and Select "Extract All"

Don't use it yet

Reboot into SAFE MODE(Tap F8 when restarting)
Here is a link on how to boot into Safe Mode:
http://service1.syma...src=sec_doc_nam

From the WinPFind folder-> Doubleclick WinPFind.exe and Click "Start Scan"

It will scan the entire System, so please be patient

One you see "Scan Complete"-> a log (WinPFind.txt) will be automatically generated in the WinPFind folder

Post the results of Panda and WinPFind along with a fresh HijackThis log

Looks just peachy to me! :tazz:

Since I doubt the PC is used for Debugging Purposes, lets fix one Service thats running and most likely comsuming bunches of Resources.

Click Start-> Run-> Type in Services.msc and Click OK

Scroll that list and locate this entry

Machine Debug Manager (MDM)

Right Click that entry and Select Properties-> Click Stop-> Go up and change the Startup Type to Disabled

Click Apply-> OK and Exit the Services Page

Please Install these 2 to add to the Security of the PC!

SpywareBlaster:
http://www.javacools...areblaster.html
Update Immediatly!

WinHelp2002 Hosts File
http://www.mvps.org/...2002/hosts2.htm

Disable System Restore
http://service1.syma...src=sec_doc_nam

Go ahead and Reconfigure Msconfig the way you like the PC to Startup!

Go ahead and remove any of the tools downloaded that are of no use anymore!

Post back and let me know how things are?

Thank You and Great Job getting the PC back to a more user friendly state!

Go ahead and Renable System Restore and restart the PC,this will clear out all old nasty restore points and create a nice new fresh clean one for you to fall back on should you ever need it.

Read through those 3 little black links in my signature to get some extra ideas about how to avoid this in the future.

Make sure you keep your Windows Operating System up to date by visiting Windows Updates regularly to download and install any critical updates and service packs.

If you ever need us again, you know how to find us! :tazz:
