I'm having trouble transfering songs from cds onto my computer the songs work fine on the cds, but when they are transfered to my hard drive it sounds like they keep skipping

I assume you mean you're ripping cd's... transfering songs from true audio cd's to your harddrive? That takes a lot of processing power, and any program that routinely spikes the cpu usage (such as a dial up modem connection to the net, a chat program, even anti-virus programs) can cause those skips. A good way to work around the problem (if you're not doing it this way already) is to rip the cd songs as wav files... THEN, after they're on your harddrive, convert them to mp3 format or whatever compression structure you're using. If you're ripping as wav already, try shutting down everything except the ripping program, and even consider using CD-DA Extractor... it's very low overhead makes it easy to get good quality rips.
