what would cause me to lose my address bar?

Hi jerry1967!

Are you referring to the address bar in Internet Explorer? If so, open Internet Explorer, click on VIEW-->TOOLBARS and make sure there is a check next to ADDRESS BAR. If there isn't, click on it and the address bar should be back. The same works for any Folder as well.
