hi and thank you in advance for any help you can give me.

i'm infected with winfixer2005.

the usual: the popups. the hype about how my computer may be infected and if i download their software it will fix everything, then when i (x) the items or windows to close them it closes all my browers at once. very irrating.

i have read a number of the other postings regarding this problem. i did not want to make the assumption that i could just use the instructions given others feeling there may be differences in the actions i might need to take which would be different.

Before you do anything else, please create a folder for HijackThis and put it in a permanent folder (like C:\HJT) instead of the Temp folder. This is required because HijackThis will create backups and we don't want them to be deleted

go to add/remove programs and please remove MyWaySA


Please print these instructions out for use in Safe Mode.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.

• Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files
• This will create a VundoFix folder on your desktop.
• After the files are extracted, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
• Once in safe mode open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat
• You will first be presented with a warning.

Download and install CleanUp!

Open Cleanup! by double-clicking the icon on your desktop (or from the Start > All Programs menu).
Set the program up as follows:
Click "Options..."
Move the arrow down to "Custom CleanUp!"
Put a check next to the following (Make sure nothing else is checked!):

• Empty Recycle Bins
• Delete Cookies
• Delete Prefetch files
• Cleanup! All Users

Click OK
Press the CleanUp! button to start the program.

It may ask you to reboot at the end, click NO.

Then, please run this online virus scan: ActiveScan

Copy the results of the ActiveScan and paste them here along with a new HiJackThis log and the vundofix.txt file from the vundofix folder into this topic.

hi Excal,

i'm at a stuck point.

F8 into safe mode - it shows a good bunch of DOS stuff about: disk... and partition ... then if finishes by asking whether to log in as Administrator or MB Gale(myself) - i tried both then i end up with a/the black screen with 'safe mode' in the four corners, and the machine doesn't seen to do anything(the mouse will move visibly(but there is nothing to do).

am i doing something wrong

No open My computer, then Cdrive.

In there you will see a file called safeboot.txt, please copy and paste that on to this post.
