Click start then run, type chkdsk /f /r then press enter, type Y to confirm for next boot, press enter then reboot

As it loads the monitor will either show the progress or remain blank, do not disturb this

It will take an hour, possibly two to get back to the desktop

The desktop will stay blank just while this test runs

Your image shows that Windows attempted to repair the drive and advised you to run check disk (this is in the second image, black with white writing, line just above the numbers

chkdsk /f /r which is typed with the spaces, is the test it asks for

How is the PC running now

If the screen remained blank while it was running then it would not tell you what it did

You can use these to repair XP

XP Repair Install

Or here if you are unable to run XP Repair Install

Alternative XP Repair Install Method

Use Windows Installation CD to repair the current installation, from the list, which uses a slightly different method

Windows XP repair feature won't delete your data, installed programs, personal information, or settings. It just repairs the operating system

After running XP Repair you will need to install all Windows Updates

Microsoft Update

It could be that partition magic has affected the hard drive partition table

Can you back up the important data to CDR Discs?
