XP SP2 /w Madden '03

I switched back to SP1 because SP2 broke all my games that relied on DirectX (including Madden '03), and my file-sharing apps (Shareaza especially). But now my system crawls with malware, despite SpyBot, VirusScan, Ad-Aware, etc., etc.

Am I forced to choose between security and functionality, or can I have both?
