A. We can definitely help you, but first you need to help us. The first step in this process is to apply Service Pack 1a for Windows XP. Without this update, you're wide open to re-infection, and we're both just wasting our time. DO NOT UPGRADE TO SP2 AT THIS TIME
  • Click HERE for the update.
  • Apply the update.
  • REBOOT YOUR SYSTEM
B. Please post a fresh HJT log.

Thanks,

Trevuren

You have the latest version of Look2Me/VX2. Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

http://www.atribune....oads/l2mfix.exe
http://www.downloads....org/l2mfix.exe
  • Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe.
  • Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts.
  • Then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop.
  • Double click l2mfix.bat
  • select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing "1" and then pressing ENTER.
  • This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log.
  • Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.
IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

If you receive, while running option #1, an error similar to "C:\windows\system32\cmd.exe,
C:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt, the system file is not suitable for running ms-dos and microsoft windows applications",
  • choose close to terminate the application.
  • Then please use option 5 or the web page link in the l2mfix folder to solve this error condition.
Do not run the fix portion without fixing this first.

Regards,

Trevuren

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

From the l2mfix folder on your desktop
  • Double click l2mfix.bat
  • Select option #2 for Run Fix by typing "2" and then pressing ENTER. It will process, then start.
  • Your desktop and icons will disappear (this is normal).
  • L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, it will be ready for a reboot.
  • Press any key to reboot.
  • After the reboot, notepad will open with a log.
  • Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log.
IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so!

If after the reboot the log does not open double click on it in the l2mfix fold

Regards,

Trevuren

I need to disable your Microsoft AntiSpyware Real-time Protection as it may interfere with the fixes.
  • Open Microsoft AntiSpyware.
  • Click on Options, Settings.
  • In the left pane, click on Real-time Protection.
  • Under Startup Options uncheck: Enable the Microsoft AntiSpyware Security Agents on startup (recommended).
  • Under Real-time spyware threat protection uncheck: Enable real-time spyware threat protection (recommended).
  • After you uncheck these, click on the Save button and close Microsoft AntiSpyware.
  • Right click on the Microsoft AntiSpyware icon on the taskbar and select Shutdown Microsoft AntiSpyware

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.
  • First we need to make all files and folders VISIBLE:
    • Go to start>control panel>folder options>view (tab)
    • Choose to "show hidden files and folders,"
    • Uncheck the "hide protected operating system files" and the "hide extensions for know file types" boxes.
    • Close the window with ok
  • Please RUN HijackThis.
. Click the SCAN button to produce a log.

  • Place a check mark beside each one of the following items:

    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant =
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch =
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SystemCheck]
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [TransObj] C:\DOCUME~2\Owner\APPLIC~1\TWOABO~1\Flapstupid.exe
    O16 - DPF: {1CD49DC9-FD88-41FA-B892-47E037267D45} - http://akamai.downlo...ESS_1059_XP.cab
    O16 - DPF: {24311111-1111-1121-1111-111191113457} - file://c:\eied_s7.cab
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: WebCheck - C:\WINDOWS\system32\e8020idoe80c0.dll (file missing)

  • Now with all the items selected, and all windows closed except for HJT, delete them by clicking the FIX checked button. Close the HijackThis window.

  • Reboot Your System in Safe Mode

How to use the F8 method to Start Your Computer in Safe Mode

    • Restart the computer.
    • As soon as BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the Advanced Options menu appears.
    • Use the arrow keys to select the Safe mode menu item
    • Press Enter.
  • Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and DELETE them (if they are present):

    C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\Owner\APPLICATION DATA\TWOABOUT~1<==Folder
    c:\eied_s7.cab

  • Exit Explorer, and REBOOT BACK INTO NORMAL MODE

  • Finally, RUN Hijackthis again and produce a new HJT log. Post it in the forum so we can check how everything looks now.
Regards,

Trevuren

Please Download the following tool to assist us in removing this infection!
  • Download WinPFind
    • Right Click the Zip Folder and Select "Extract All"
    • Extract it somewhere you will remember like the Desktop
    • Dont do anything with it yet!
  • Reboot into Safe Mode

Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

  • Doubleclick WinPFind.exe
    • Click "Start Scan"
    • It will scan the entire System, so please be patient!
    • Once the Scan is Complete
    • Go to the WinPFind folder
    • Locate WinPFind.txt
    • Place those results in the next post!
  • Reboot back to Normal Mode!

1. Backup the registry by going to Start>Run> and type ‘regedit’ without the quotes. Once the Registry Editor opens, please do the following:
  • Highlight My Computer
  • From the file menu choose ‘export’ in XP.
  • Choose Desktop as the destination
  • Under Export Range, choose "ALL"
  • Use Sysreg as the file name
  • Click Save and EXIT the Registry Editor onece the operation is completed
  • To verify that the export was successful, you should see a "blue cube icon" on your desktop named Sysreg.reg
If a restore of the registry is required in case of emergency, just click on the exported regfile on your desktop, and answer YES to the question whether you want to merge this file with the registry. Wait until you get a message saying something like Merge Successfull.

2. Launch Notepad, and copy/paste everything in the codebox below into the new document, including the word REGEDIT4. Go up to "File Save As" and click the drop-down box to change the "Save As Type" to "All Files" and save it to your desktop as fixme.reg.

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\SystemCheck]

3. Locate fixme.reg on your Desktop and double-click on it. You will receive a prompt similar to: "Do you wish to merge the information into the registry?". Answer Yes and wait for a message to appear similar to Merged Successfully.

4. Reboot your computer.

5. Finally, run HijackThis, click SCAN, produce a LOG and POST it in this thread for review.

Regards,

Trevuren
