Hi arabcamel and welcome to GeeksToGo! My name is Excal and I will be helping you.

DOWNLOAD PROGRAMS

Download smitRem.exe© by noahdfear and save the file to your desktop.
Double click on the file to extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.

If you have not already installed Ad-Aware SE 1.06, follow these download and setup instructions, otherwise, check for updates:
Ad-Aware SE Setup
Don't run it yet!

Download and install CleanUp! Here
*NOTE* Cleanup deletes EVERYTHING out of temp/temporary folders and does not make backups.

We will use this program later.

THE FIX

Please read this post completely, it may make it easier for you if you copy and paste this post to a new text document or print it for reference later.

1. Click this link to be sure you can view hidden files.

2. Ensure you are NOT connected to the internet.

3. Reboot into safe mode.

Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

4. Open up and run Ewido:
  • Click on scanner
  • Click Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • During the scan when it ask if you want to clean the first file, put a check in the lower left corner of the box that says "Perform action on all infections" then choose clean and click OK
  • When the scan is finished, look at the bottom of the screen and click the Save report button.
  • Save the report to your desktop
Close Ewido

5. Close all browsers, windows and unneeded programs.

6. Open HiJack and do a scan.

7. Put a Check next to the following items:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PayTime] C:\WINDOWS\system32\paytime.exe
O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\OSA.EXE
O20 - Winlogon Notify: App Management - C:\WINDOWS\system32\fpl0033me.dll (file missing)

8. click the Fix Checked box

9. Please remove these entries from Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel(if present):

paytime

10. Please remove just the files from the following paths using Windows Explorer (if present):

C:\WINDOWS\system32\paytime.exe

11. Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.

The tool will create a log named smitfiles.txt in the root of your drive, eg; Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

12. Open Ad-aware and do a full scan. Remove all it finds.

13. Run the program CleanUp!

14. Reboot into normal mode and please run this online virus scan: ActiveScan - Save the results from the scan!

15. Please post the Active scan log, Ewido log, smitfiles.txt log and a fresh HiJackThis log. Let me know how your computer is running.

Thank you for the advise, unfortunately i don't think it completely worked. The active scan wouldn't run for some reason. When I got to the point of it asking me whether I wanted to scan my computer, the local disks, or other things, it wouldn't go past that stage. I still am getting pop ups, not as many, but still am getting quite a few. Here are all the other scans:

---------------------------------------------------------
ewido security suite - Scan report
---------------------------------------------------------

+ Created on: 10:26:04 AM, 12/11/2005
+ Report-Checksum: 17AA9E78

+ Scan result:

[692] C:\WINDOWS\system32\sbcfiles.dll -> Spyware.Look2Me : Error during cleaning
[820] C:\WINDOWS\system32\sbcfiles.dll -> Spyware.Look2Me : Error during cleaning
C:\Documents and Settings\Simon\Local Settings\Temp\Cookies\simon@com[2].txt -> Spyware.Cookie.Com : Cleaned with backup
C:\Documents and Settings\Simon\Local Settings\Temp\Cookies\simon@statcounter[2].txt -> Spyware.Cookie.Statcounter : Cleaned with backup

Everytime I open Internet Explorer or other programs, a popup will open, and then again if the computer is just sitting here. It also seemed to take a lot longer than normal to load windows, it could be because i was in safe mode running all these scans. Thanks again, and let me know what to do from here.

You may have the latest version of VX2. Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:
  • One
    Two
  • Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe.
  • Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop.
Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.[list]
  • From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter
  • Press any key to reboot your computer.
  • After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log.
  • Copy the contents of log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log, and we'll clean up what's left. :tazz:
IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so!

Not sure at this point, but lets get you cleaned up totally, then take a look at that.

Spysweeper

Please disable SpySweeper, as it may hinder the removal of some entries. You can re-enable it after you're clean.

To disable SpySweeper:

Open it click >Options over to the left then >Program Options >Uncheck "load at windows startup".
Over to the left click "shields" and uncheck all there.
Uncheck "home page shield".
Uncheck "automatically restore default without notification".

open Hijackthis and do a scan. Please check off the following items:

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page =
O20 - Winlogon Notify: App Paths - C:\WINDOWS\system32\dyserial.dll (file missing)
O20 - Winlogon Notify: DateTime - C:\WINDOWS\system32\en6ul1j91.dll (file missing)
O21 - SSODL: SysTray.Exiv - {2963ECFC-4E5C-2f3b-B334-D67434FC72E0} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ifgnfifa.dll (file missing)

click FIX CHECKED then close Hijackthis

please reboot and use this online scanner:

http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner

then please post a fresh HiJackthis log and the results of the laspersky scan

Everything looks great! Thanks and Happy Holidays :)

Great job, it appears your computer is clean :tazz:

Ensure you rehide your “hidden files and folders” back to the way they were.

Now that your system is Malware Free, it is important to reset your system Restore. Click Here to learn how to.

I recommend that you Defrag your computer before setting your Restore points:

Go to start>all programs>accessories>system tools>Disk Defragmentor Make sure it set to the proper drive (default should be your main driver) and click on defragment

Might I suggest the following Free Spyware programs, if you don't already have them, for added security, you can download them at the following links. These programs work great for detection:

Ad-aware SE
Spybot S&D
Microsoft Anti-Spyware

If you are unhappy with your current antivirus and want to replace it or if you dont already have one, I suggest one of these free programs:
*Note - do not use more than one anti-virus program as it will more than likely cause conflict.

AVG
Avast
AntiVir

The following free programs are great for prevention:

SpywareBlaster 3.4
Spywareguard
IE/Spyad

A Firewall is a must! Here are 3 good free versions:
(do not have more than one firewall running on your system)

Sygate
Kerio
ZoneLabs

There are other options other than Internet Explorer for a browser, which some say have better security. Two of them are:

Firefox
Opera

If you decide to keep Internet Explorer, This site is a great source for tightening up security on It's settings.

Make sure that you keep your Operating System and IE updated with the latest Critical Security Updates from Microsoft...they usually come out once a month, on the 2nd Tuesday of each month.

Be sure and give the Temp folders a cleaning out now and then as well, Make sure after you clean your Temp files to empty out your Recycle bin as well.
For ease use the following program:

Cleanup
Run "Cleanup" and when it has finished, Reboot

To help prevent future spyware installations/infections, please read the Anti-Spyware Tutorial and use the tools provided. Also read So how did I get infected in the first place?

Excal, I can't thank you enough!!!

I am finally free of that horrific spy sherriff.

I really appreciate all your help. I definetly wouldn't have done all this without you advising me.

I read your last post very carefully and I now have installed exactly the programs you informed me of, but obviously only one antivirus (norton) and one firewall (zonealarm).

Everything seems to be going well.

I decided to stay with Internet explorer because I don't really think that firefox is much safer than internet explorer. I DID go to that website you informed me of and changed some settings to better protect myself.

Thank you again and again. You too, have a wonderful holiday!
